Trump: This is so sad to see, and it's constant. And we don't do anything about it. We're weak, and we're weakly led.

Terrorist in Nice attack was 'well known to police'

As I write this we don't have the guy's name yet, but the Independent out of the UK reports that the Nice truck terrorist is no stranger to police:
Sources close to the inquiry said the perpetrator was a local 31-year-old career criminal who was born in Tunisia before moving to France. His 19 tonne lorry had zigzagged through crowds massing on the Promenade des Anglais on Thursday night, killing anyone he could. After being stopped by armed police, who fired bullets into the lorry’s windscreen, the so far unnamed man exchanged fire with officers using a 7.65 pistol, before being shot dead. "He was known to the police for violence, and using weapons, but had no direct links with terrorism," said an investigating source. "His identity car was found in the lorry. He had French and Tunisian nationality."

I eagerly await Democrat calls for truck control. Donald Trump appeared on Fox News as the story was breaking, and while many of the fact were not yet known at the time, he was not shy in asserting that this incident gave credibility to his call to refuse immigration from nations associated with terrorism: If this incident should clarify anything, it's simply this: There are no security measures strong enough to stop determined killers who don't care what happens to them. Take away guns, they'll get knives. Stop them from hijacking planes, they'll get their hands on a truck. Radical Islamic terrorists don't care what method they use. That should be abundantly clear from all the horrific videos ISIS has released that show them beheading, burning and drowning people. Not only will they do anything, they'll be brazen about showing it to the rest of the world. The people who insist that taking these threats seriously is "giving in to fear" have mistaken vigilance with fear. Like it or not, the world is filled with evil, and it's possible to both enjoy your life and remain on constant alert over threats. That doesn't mean fear has overtaken your life. It just means you're not a delusional idiot and you're willing to deal with reality.

But what could have been done to prevent what happened in Nice last night? A crowd of people is gathered for a Bastille Day fireworks display. No one could have anticipated that a nearby truck would suddenly be used as a weapon of mass murder. There's no way you can blame security forces for failing to anticipate and stop this. The only thing you can do is defeat radical Islam as an belief system, and kill the people plotting to kill us before they have the chance. That's what the Global War on Terror was all about post-9/11. It was about refusing to just sit around and react to these things after the fact, and taking the fight to them. Americans were behind this for awhile, but we got impatient and soft, and elected a new leader who didn't want the fight. You see the result. Yes, I know this happened in France and not in the United States, but the rise of terrorism in general reflects not only a rise in evil, but also the retreat of good people who in other times would have been vigilant in rising up against it. Evil is most brazen when no one is interested in seriously opposing it. And for as many of you who called him "racist" for wanting to put a halt to Muslim immigration, Trump is right. The only way to stop these people is to keep them out of the country in the first place. Once they're here, they'll find a way to kill. Even if you take all the guns away, they'll find a way. Because it's what they do. Standing up to people like this used to be what we did. Then we lost our nerve. I wonder if it's possible for us to ever really get it back on a permanent basis.
