It just amazes the hell out of me how all of the politicians in Washington have started blowing even more smoke up our Kilt about the catastrophic results of shutting down the government just as the battle over raising the debt limit is about to begin.
I don’t know if anyone out there is awake enough to remember, but the government has on 17 occasions allowed appropriations to lapse, requiring the government to begin shutting down non-essential operations.
- 30 Sept. 1976 shut down for 10 days
- 30 Sept. 1977 for 12 days;
- 31 Oct. 1977 for 8 days;
- 30 Nov. 1977 for 8 days.
- 30 Sept. 1978, for 17 days.
- 30 Sept. 1979, for 11 days.
- 20 Nov. 1981 for 2 days.
- 30 Sept. 1982 for 1 day;
- 17 Dec 1982 for 3 days.
- 10 Nov. 1983 for 3 days.
- 30 Sept. 1984 for 2 days;
- 3 Oct. 1984 for 1 day.
- 16 Oct. 1986 for 1 day.
- 18 Dec. 1987 for 1 day.
- 13 Nov. 1995 for 5 days;
- 15 Dec. 1995 for 21 days

Now that all the previous shutdowns are listed, let’s hear it from Barack and Harry Reid and chuck Schumer and the rest of their ilk how the world will come to an end if we don’t raise the debt limit.
They are all screaming that the country will default on our obligations (more smoke) we will not default and we didn’t in the past either, they just don’t want us to turn off their money spigot. That would mean they would have to stop spending and reduce the debt (what a concept).
Sorry to tell you elitist bums but the ride is over, you danced and now it is time to pay the musicians.
It looks like you will have to put a lid on your appetite for filet and get used to the idea of fine dining on MREs (for all of you jokers who have never worn a uniform, and that is most of you or your kids either, that stands for Meal Ready To Eat). We used to have C-Rations, MREs are somewhat of an improvement but not much.
If you shut down again, don’t even think about shortchanging the folks in uniform or their families either, THEY COME FIRST, ESPECIALLY AHEAD OF YOU POLITICIANS.
I came to the conclusion quite some time ago that most of you political elites are not worth the powder it would take to blow all of you to Kingdom Come.
Let’s see you prove us wrong, DO THE RIGHT THING FOR A CHANGE (if you are capable of recognizing the right thing).
Sometimes I feel like the old man in Jerusalem who went to pray at the wall every day for thirty years, and when asked by a reporter what do you pray for he replied “World peace and sanity among people everywhere.”
The reporter replied none of that has happened, how does that make you feel?
