Cairo, Egypt—Canadian Foreign Minister, John Baird, came to Egypt where he met with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Nabil Fahmy, as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League, in addition to some senior priests of the Egyptian church.
During these meetings, they talked about the issue of classifying the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization in Canada, as it is already in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other countries. Also on the talk table was the possibility to investigate Brotherhood activities and the huge sums of money owned by the Brotherhood in Canada —as part of their financial activities in North America, which, just as the U.K. recently did. The response by Mr. Baird was a bit frustrating and downright strange; Mr. Baird said that his country follows specific steps specially when it comes to its terrorism lists, and stressed that the inclusion of the Brotherhood on the terrorism list in Canada requires getting more information before such a decision can be made. Although Mr. Baird declared that Canada supports Egypt in its fight against terrorism, he did not clarify the sort of information his country needs for the classification of the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. In addition to that, Mr. Baird came with shocking recommendations for supporting the Brotherhood and defending them against the Egyptian government! Amnesty International in Canada sent an open letter to Mr. John Baird before his visit to Egypt, urging him to put pressure on Cairo for the release of the Canadian - Egyptian journalist Mohammed Fahmy. Fahmy, a journalist affiliated to the Al-Jazeera channel, and member of the Brotherhood terrorist organization, is accused of falsifying reports and providing wrong information to the public arena that will lead to the distortion of Egypt’s image on the international stage. The case is called "The Marriott hotel cell" - which we wrote about previously here.

It seems that the Amnesty International dropped all its other business to devote themselves to defend the Muslim Brotherhood and to push Mr. Baird to play the role of a lawyer in this case, under the pretext of defending "human rights". This despite the fact that "humans" want to live in safety without feeling the permanent threat of death because of the risk of terrorist acts carried out by the Brotherhood and their militias. That 'humans' have the 'right' to allow their security agencies—which citizens are paying through taxes— to arrest those killers and let the country get rid of their evil. It seems that Amnesty International and Mr. Baird have another opinion. Three major points or recommendations sent by Amnesty with Baird were all limited to the defense of the Brotherhood elements and trying to save them from the inevitable fate that awaits them as a result of what they did. The second request for Mr. Baird was also to mediate before the Egyptian government for the release of the ousted President Mohammed Morsi's secretary and Muslim Brotherhood leader, Khaled Kazzaz, because Kazzaz has a permanent residence in Canada. As if this is enough reason to free anyone, whose proven participation in financing Brotherhood demonstrations and violence in Egyptian universities, and the planning to disrupt the referendum for the new constitution—in addition to joining a banned terrorist group and disturbing the public peace—which are the accusations he now faces and is imprisoned for. The third recommendation, which the Canadian Foreign Minister came with, was dropping the charges of mass executions against the Brotherhood 529 supporters, even though this decision was issued by the court of law, and that what is required by Mr. Baird is a clear interference in the judiciary work, which is unacceptable in any country that respects the law. I do not think it is accepted in Canada as well. Oddly enough, Mr. Baird has come with these requests, despite his statement at the press conference that his country is "deeply concerned" by the Muslim Brotherhood, which the Egyptian government considers a terrorist organization. Baird stressed that Canada takes "strong positions" when it comes to the listing of a terrorist groups, and that the listing has to be on the basis of facts and information.
So, are these strong positions to include the interference in the work and decisions of the judiciary? Does it mean that Canada is deeply concerned about the Muslim Brotherhood to mediate to get them out of prison and to be pardoned illegally? It seems that the Egyptian foreign minister has given a strong message to his Canadian friend to stay away from that issue and not to try to interfere with it again. The Egyptian Foreign Minister announced that the President Adli Mansour sent a message to the family of the Canadian detained journalist to confirm that he will be tried in a fair trial. This should put an end to talking about this matter until the court of law says its final word, whether with acquittal or conviction.
