Interesting conversation
Suppose an intelligent Man from Mars (MfM), observing our economic situation, were to hail an Earthling Politician (EP). It is irresistible to speculate on the resulting conversation:
MfM: You have millions of employed people, some of whom need houses but can't afford them, is that right?
EP: Yes, of course.
MfM: And you say you have many unemployed people. Could any of them build houses?
EP: Oh, yes, some certainly could.
MfM: Is one reason some working people can't afford houses possibly that you take away some of their money - what is it you call that ... ?
EP: Taxes. We tax them. But wait a minute now ...
MfM: Also, using the money you take from the working people who need houses, you pay house builders - what is it you call it - Unemployment Insurance - not to build houses? Have I got that straight? You take money from
people who need houses to pay to house builders not to build houses?
EP; Hold on, there, now, you don't understand ...
MfM; You are absolutely right. I don't understand. I'm going back to Mars.
Cheers,
F.
