Gore illustrates exactly why we "deniers" do not believe this is about science but about political transformation; every left-wing cause has been folded into this issue. Gore's argument doesn't make a damned lick of sense, but it is not supposed to; it's intended to have an emotional appeal, not a reasoned argument.
Population control is the Holy Grail of the Left, and has been since Thomas Malthus
Population control is the Holy Grail of the Left, and has been since Thomas Malthus. Why, you ask? Because the State seeks to usurp the throne of God, and be the decider of life and death. The Rousseauian concept of the Collective Will, which essentially argues that the State is the embodiment of the general will of the People and so should not be limited, must exert it's right to override the will of the individual. One of the most fundamental rights is the right to reproduce, and society has not seriously impeded that right before. It used to be assumed that Children came from God and were a gift from God, but the modern Left seeks to be the decider of such things, to cut Divine Will out of the equation, to empower the Collective Will of Man.
This is why abortion is so important to liberals; it gives them the power to arbitrarily decide who has the right to live. It is why they support euthanasia. It is why they support universal healthcare. All of these instances grant them the illusion of equality with the Most High.
Al Gore calls for "fertility management"
And so when a man like Al Gore calls for "fertility management" he means empowering the State - and the International Order he seeks to create - to decide the matter of reproduction, to usurp the role of judge of the living and the dead. It is a power the Left has been desperate to acquire.
I
discussed this at some length during the debate over the life of Terri Schiavo back in 2005.
The absolute determination of the Left to snuff out Terri's life puzzled many conservatives at that time, but makes perfect sense in this context.
We see this with animal rights groups like PETA claiming "a boy is a dog is a horse is a man", suggesting that Man is nothing but an animal like any other and subject to the collective will. We see this in the debate about stem cell research, where utilitarianism trumps the life of the embryo that must be destroyed, an embryo brought into existence solely to be a subject of research and ultimately destroyed. We see this in human experimentation conducted by the U.S. government and other governments over the decades - including a
recent experiment by the EPA where test subjects were exposed to dangerous levels of air pollutants to test the effects of these pollutants on unsuspecting people.
Seeing human beings as things is par for the course for the Left. If we are nothing but meat with minds then we can be treated like meat. Advancement of the human condition requires a certain degree of pain and suffering to usher in the promised paradise by human effort. You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs...
Leftists have broken many eggs where they achieve power. Take the 20,946,000
Victims of the Nazis, or the 149,469,610
murdered by Communists in the interest of "change". And don't forget the billion plus
aborted worldwide since the Left won their "right of a woman to choose" at the expense of a child.
So Al Gore promotes decreased child mortality and education for women not because those things are moral but because they are useful tools to promote his dreams of a new world order. In the end he wants to impose his will on these beneficiaries of his benevolence. He and the rest of the utopian Left are going to help us, even if it kills us.
Global Warming is just one tool to achieve this end.
