The Evils of Profit

Over the last few months, and especially the last few weeks of the Presidential campaign, we have been hearing about the evils of profit, whether it is the self-styled 99% or the Super Pac’s attacking Bain Capital, the Marxist anti-capitalist agenda is in full force.

But what exactly are those evil profits and what do they mean? Profit is the reward a business receives for serving your fellow man. Very simple, the better a business serves its neighbors the more profit it can make. Take your local baker, in order to succeed he or she must make bread, cake etc. better than you can make at home, and in doing so, you gladly give the baker your money to purchase a product you want. Bill Gates, for example, took an idea, and turned it into billions, because his product serves the needs of the public, making our lives more simple and efficient. No longer do we need to use a typewriter, now we can use a word processor with spell check, no longer do we need a note pad, or stationary, we can use a computing device to store information, no longer do we need file cabinets for our information or books for our pictures. Business’ are more efficient all because Bill Gates served a need, and has been rewarded for his service. We are surrounded by labor saving devices, all invented and produced to serve mankind, and the more effective a device is, the more the inventor or producer is rewarded. Do you honestly think that without this reward, anyone would have invented the washing machine, the dishwasher, the microcomputer, or even the light bulb? So next time you hear someone attacking for example the profits of those evil oil companies, remind them of all the good things that the oil companies do to serve man. From allowing food to flow to your local grocer, to heating and cooling your home, getting to your job, so you can serve your fellow man by earning a living, and allowing you to travel and see new sights. Without profit, none of us would be able to do more than subsist on our own labor, and be unable to serve those less fortunate with the charity our profits can create.
