Liberal Party of Canada

The gang that can’t shoot straight

How the mighty have fallen! I can barely believe that the current Liberal Party of Canada is the same Liberal Party that fielded the likes of Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien. Not that I ever agreed with anything they stood for, but you had to hand it to them; they knew how to gain and wield power.

Today’s Liberal Party is a far cry from the Liberal juggernaut of yesteryear with the hapless Stephane Dion at the helm, stumbling from one blunder to the next and keeping his tin ear carefully tuned to the voices of impracticality. Dion’s “Green Shift” plan, which has all the earmarks of having been conceived by some back-room boy, is counting on Ontarians and Quebecers to buy into the idea of screwing western Canada. And maybe a plan as devious as this might have a chance of being successful if the price of gas were say, 89¢ per liter. But what Dion is asking Canadians to do is to essentially shoot themselves in the foot by supporting this silly Ponzi scheme. With gasoline as high as $1.45 per liter in some localities, it doesn’t make sense to ask Canadians to pay even more, even if there is the promised payoff to the likes of low-income families and rural Canadians. Then there is the issue of paying additional taxes on home heating oil and natural gas. People are already turning their thermostats way down during the winter months, as these commodities have increased dramatically in price over the past few years. Now the Liberals believe that Canadian families are willing to pay more to keep out the cold. Don’t the Liberals realize that this is Canada and that the climate of this country is such that heating one’s home isn’t what one may consider a luxury? these steps were necessary to combat global warming, why would we want to, if global warming will increase winter temperatures in Kapuskasing? As far as ideas toward solving the increase in carbon particulates in the atmosphere go, this is a non-starter. The only thing it will achieve is to swell government coffers and I can’t imagine that even the most rabid Liberal would be in favor of it. Then there is the issue of originality. Dion and company have had to resort to robbing a private Canadian company for the name “green shift”. The party is currently being sued for $8.75 million for copyright infringement by Green Shift Inc., a Toronto-based environmental consulting firm. The company is outraged that the Liberals would willy-nilly expropriate their corporate trademark in their quest for power. Jennifer Wright, the company’s CEO and founder is adamant that she plans to stop the Liberals from using her company’s name as a campaign slogan. “If they take our name, they take us,” she stated at a news conference announcing the lawsuit. So much for original thinking on the part of the Liberals in coming up with that name. While the Liberals did advise Green Shift Inc. that they would be using the green shift name, they did so on the eve of the plan’s announcement, which would indicate that no one in Dion’s office bothered checking if the name was already trademarked before the brochures, T-shirts and ball caps were purchased. So the Libs are teetering from one crisis to the next, dreaming up untenable plans and stealing corporate trademarks in order to publicize them. If you want to know what Canada would look like with Stephane Dion heading up its next government, you need merely watch how the Liberal Party is lurching from crisis to crisis.
