The Garnaut Recession?

Professor Garnaut expresses concern that a slowdown in China may trigger a recession in Australia (The Australian Newspaper 19 July, 2011).

He should welcome it. The use of carbon fuels like coal, oil and gas, more than any other measure, reflects economic activity. The Climate Control Professor of the South Pacific will thus never achieve his target cuts to the production of carbon dioxide without a depression of economic activity. He should welcome Chinese assistance in his grim task. Viv Forbes
