The late Wayne Bunker - my mentor on the LV City Council

The tiny hamlet of Bunkerville is located fifty miles east of Las Vegas in the southeast corner of Nevada along the Virgin River near the Arizona and Utah borders. The town was named after one of the pioneer Mormon families that first settled Southern Nevada in the late 1800's.

Most of the current residents of Bunkerville, nearby Overton, Glendale, and Logandale, are the descendents of some of the toughest settlers of the Old West. I am proud to say that Wayne Bunker was my mentor when we served together on the Las Vegas City Council in the 1980's. He taught me many of the principals that his parents instilled in him during his childhood in Bunkerville, and later years in Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. Rancher Clive Bundy is also from Bunkerville, and shares the traditions and values of his neighbors.

As a life long resident of Southern Nevada. I have developed the deepest respect for those who founded my city and its surrounding Clark County. Therefore, I was not surprised at the Bundy's response to the over reaction of the BLM on their land, and the response levied by nearby Utah and Arizona ranchers and cowboys who practice the values that made America the most powerful and exceptional nation in the world.

American Cowboy Justice, circa: 2014

The current day federal bureaucrats and political operatives who created this week's dangerous situation are not in the least way similar to the government leaders long time Nevadans, Arizonans, and Utahans grew up with and respected. The current government subordinates on Saturday, April 12, 2014, learned the hard way that their anonymous leaders misled them into messing with the wrong folks up in Bunkerville. Thank God for the Second Amendment, social media, and the stalwart pioneers who settled this desolate corner of the Old West.
