After Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report was published describing President Biden’s violations of proper handling of classified material, Biden decided to publicly attack Hur. More specifically, Hur’s observations of Biden’s poor memory and age-related lack of mental acuity. This was despite the inclusion of Biden’s poor memory and mental clarity as justification not to prosecute him.
Biden scheduled an impromptu press conference and proceeded to embarrass himself and confirm Hur’s mental fitness observations. Biden’s presser included multiple mental gaffe’s and he went so far as to confuse Mexico with Egypt. Biden blamed the fact he had unlawfully taken classified documents from a sensitive compartmentalized information facility (SCIF) on his staff. Biden’s visceral anger became directed at those reporters asking about mental fitness.
A young minority female reporter benignly broached the subject of a recent poll and said “Many American people have been watching and they have expressed concerns about your age” (A recent NBC poll showed that Biden’s age related mental/physical fitness was the top issue and the concern of 76 percent of voters. Biden angrily pointed his finger at her and yelled, “That is your judgment! That is your judgment! That is not the judgment of the press!”
She went on to recount to Biden: “In December, you told me you believed there were many other Democrats who could defeat Donald Trump. So why does it have to be you now?” Biden yelled back, “Because I am the most qualified person in this country to be president of the United States, and finish the job I started.”
This presser left much to criticize, but Biden’s attack against truth was the most egregious.
First, it is beyond question that Biden and his staff know Americans are concerned about his age and mental fitness for office and so had no right to insult us claiming it was solely the reporter’s judgment. Ironically, in the aftermath of this catastrophic press conference, an ABC/Ipsos poll found that 86 percent of Americans now believe Biden is too old for another term. This past September, a Wall Street Journal Poll showed 73 percent of Americans believed Biden was too old to be President. In the summer of 2023, Biden acknowledged polls showing concerns about his age and acuity and attempted to joke about age to alleviate concerns. As all Americans are aware, Biden has been making mental gaffes since the start of his presidency and Americans are rightfully concerned.
Biden’s gaslighting attack against the reporter for citing a known truth is just one example of the Left’s attack against truth. Despite all the evidence involved with the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in October 2020, Joe Biden and media allies attacked and stigmatized the sources of the truth, like the New York Post.

The New York Post, the nation’s oldest newspaper and founded by Alexander Hamilton, was called “right wing media” and “Trump’s” media (despite the feud between the paper and Trump). The New York Post laptop scandal story was censored until after the election, and then the left acknowledged it was true.
During this same period, Democrats were calling to defund police, while supporting riotous behavior nationwide. Biden did not speak out against defunding police and picked a vice presidential candidate who had praised defunding police (like praising a $150-million cut from the Los Angeles Police Department). By March 2023, when Americans were fed up with the crime resulting from defunding police, Biden gaslighted claiming Republicans supported defunding police. In recent weeks we’ve seen his gaslighting attack on truth over the disaster at the southern border, blaming Republicans for what his policies and executive orders have caused. Biden and his staff praised the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan as a success, asking Americans to disbelieve their own eyes. Biden and staff claimed Bidenomics had brought inflation down. Truth has been slowly strangled.
The attacks on the truth are from the same far-left ideology which has brought about “progressive” ideas like Critical Race Theory (CRT).
As Christopher Rufo wrote in America’s Cultural Revolution: “The first key element of critical race theory is the discipline’s reconceptualization of the truth…… They followed the fashionable line of French post-structuralist philosophers Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, arguing that ‘truth is a social construct created to suit to suit the purposes of the dominant group.’”
Rufo also explained how CRT included the idea that objective reason and knowledge could not exist. Karl Marx, progeniture of the modern progressives, similarly denied objective reason and knowledge. In his passionate attacks against Christianity and support of atheistic materialism, Marx denied philosophical rationality as a means to truth. Critical theory and CRT follow the Marxist Paradigm of materialism and history explained by power struggle of oppressors and oppressed. “Truth,” to the progressive left, doesn’t exist as it challenges their vision.
In the Left’s assault on truth, gaslighting has continued to grow more bold, including from Biden. Demanding Americans disbelieve what they see (and rationally conclude from clear evidence) is about flexing progressive power. Language is subverted to fulfill this quest for power, including language which corrupts our perception of “self-evident” truths (Declaration of Independence) of individual and God-given rights. It’s time we fight for the Truth with which God has gifted us: His revelation and our rationality to discern.
