Yes, we have some major problems with the Senate but there was a little good news coming out of the upper chamber this week. The new Senate Majority Leader, Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell, has gone back to allowing the minority party to begin the normal process of submitting amendments and actually voting on bills!
It may seem like a small thing, but when scumbag Harry Reid ran the Senate he made a mockery of our government by refusing to allow the normal rules to work the way they are supposed to.
The biggest, most partisan game that Reid played was to stop the minority party from even offering amendments to bills. This has been something that has been allowed since the first day the Senate met. But Reid took away the right of Republican Senators to represent their voters by illicitly taking all power from them with his faux rule of eliminating amendments. Reid’s move necessarily disenfranchised every single Republican voter in the country.
Now, as one of his first duties, McConnell has returned the proper procedure to the Senate.
McConnell allowed 25 proposed amendments to go to floor votes. That is 10 more floor votes than Harry Reid allowed in all of 2014.
McConnell also pointed out that in three short weeks of this new session there have been more votes cast this year than in all of 2014 Harry Reid and the Democrats ran the Senate.
The Keystone XL Pipeline bill was the fifteenth vote.
Fifteen. Reid didn’t even allow fifteen votes in all of 2014!!
Like I said, it is a small thing, but maybe not so small. With McConnell allowing our proper system to reassert itself over the partisan, unfair, corrupt, un-American way Obama/Reid/Democrats ran things last year, it is a good thing. It is also proof that Republicans are far more American than Democrats.
