"Recession has signed the death knell for solo exhibitions at many art galleries", says Tim Saunders, founder of Creative Coverage, which sources worldwide exhibition opportunities for professional artists.

“Solo shows are traditionally very expensive, involving a significant investment on the part of the gallery, in terms of marketing,” explains Tim. “While group events are equally as dear they are far more attractive to galleries because if one artist proves unpopular the others in the group will hopefully still generate sales,” adds Tim, who is keen to forge links with businesses, galleries and expats in Canada in a bid to showcase the work of British artists. Such an event is set to take place in the UK with five professional artists who have never worked together: David Farren, the impressionist oil painter from Lancashire Roy Mackintosh, the oil painter from Surrey Susie Lidstone, the botanical watercolourist from Surrey Robin Pickering, the pastel artist from Devon Eileen Sey, the Hampshire based landscape painter “The fact that each artist has the opportunity of conducting a demonstration during the event will also make it more interactive and engaging for the general public than a traditional, stuffy art exhibition,” concludes Tim.

The two week event takes place at mine: creative space and gallery at: 30 to 34 High Street Carshalton, Surrey from September 21 to October 5. Tel: 0208-6471800.
