Repairing the World

Tikkun Olan also infects Christianity

Arutz Sheva has a great article regarding Tikkun Olan, the “repairing the world” Jewish tradition. On one hand it has a lot going for it, as the tradition, prior to its liberal metamorphosis in the US, kept alive the ideologies of caring for your neighbor, becoming a truly better person, not just a Jew and so on. But when American liberals got hold of it, it became twisted into where becoming a more liberal liberal took over becoming a better person.

As a Nevada State Representative, I had the opportunity to get to know the leaders of the Jewish community in my area. This included Rabbis from across the traditional spectrum. I even had the honor at taking the seat to the right of the Rabbi at an orthodox Shabbat dinner. When the topic of Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign state arose, the only people who disputed that right were those who placed the liberal version of Tikkun Olan above the scripture…and history’s lessons; most of them members of the ACLU. I know full well that this is going to cause a lot of heat amongst Tikkun Olan adherents. Too bad. Nothing will convince me that the Jews in Israel, especially including those in the settlements, are wrong where the Arabs are concerned. But that really is another column. What this is about is where this liberal oral tradition has also infected Christianity. At its simplest, core Christianity is really a branch of the Jewish religion believing in the teachings of Jesus, including those that he really was the Messiah. From the time recorded in the Book of Acts, there has been a divergence and now there are nearly as many variations of Christianity as there are flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. A number of them do exactly what Jesus condemned the corrupt religious leaders of his day for doing; tossing out or changing those verses that contradict their actions. One major branch insists that Mary and Joseph never, ever performed as a normal healthy married couple even though the Gospels indicate Jesus was the eldest sibling of a good sized family. Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, and Mark 3:31 say that Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him. The Bible tells us that Jesus had four brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). The Bible also tells us that Jesus had sisters, but they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:56). The Church that insists that Mary remained a virgin her entire life says that all these people were actually “cousins”, but the Greek language is far more specific than English. There is a specific word for "cousin" in Greek. It isn’t used. Another Church thinks it is just fine to elevate actively practicing homosexuals into the Christian version of Rabbi, even though in every case where Jesus forgave a person engaged in sexual sin his parting words were to “go and sin no more”. If you are a Christian church, whose teaching has precedent, some New Age minister or the one who started the whole religion? Examples of Christian hypocrisy continue in every branch of the Christian church and space just doesn’t permit to even form a partially concise list, but concerning the church that insists on Mary’s virginity, has anyone questioned why the Jews are called “Christ Killers”? I have. Not once in their history have any of Israel’s tribes practiced execution by crucifixion. During that particular trial and execution, Jesus was handed over to the Roman Governor. Even though the crowd called for execution, there is ample evidence that the crowd was as bipartisan as one of Obama’s so-called Townhall meetings. Jesus’ Jewish supporters were excluded from attendance. It was Roman soldiers who whipped him. It was Roman soldiers who led him up to Calvary. It was Roman soldiers who held the spikes and wielded the hammer, and it was a Roman Soldier who stuck the spear into his side. It was Romans who performed the execution, not Jews. So why is that hideous nickname not affixed to Italians? Because that would not be politically correct and because a certain church fostered that twisted world view.

Liberalism for liberalism’s sake is an evil

Right now many Christian churches are going along with a Christian version of “repairing the world” that is effectively aiding in the destruction of every thing that made the United States what it was. This Christian Tikkun Olan is excusing the personal failures that cause most homelessness and placing the blame onto those who practice self-reliance and real family responsibility. It forgives the crimes of terrorism and asks, what must we have done to cause such hate? It shrugs at the infanticide of abortion and calls those members of its congregation who believe in saving the unborn “anti choice”. It calls men and women who believe in actually treating every race, sex, creed and culture equally and those who judge by the quality of character, not the color of skin, “racist”. Liberalism for liberalism’s sake is an evil no matter how it is presented. Sure, every political philosophy has its villains, even conservatism, but at least there they are the exception to the rule, not the other way around.
