Barack Obama, We are not a Christian Nation

Time for a Come to Jesus Meeting, Mr. President!

When President Obama declared “We are not a Christian nation”, he was right. What we once were, we no longer are. But before you add your comments to this piece- please digest all of what follows.

When B Hussein O went on to say “we are a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, a Muslim nation…” he was absolutely wrong. Simply put, we are a nation that is fond of “In God We Trust “emblazoned on our money, our license plates, and anywhere else we can display the sentiment. When a sitting president disparages the name of Jesus Christ by covering a placard at Georgetown we rightfully get on the defensive. When the same leader bows to a Saudi king, berates America to our European allies, warms up to a terrorist leader named Chavez, and goes a couple months without attending a Christian church, it riles what is left of Christian America. And what does remain? Apparently not a whole lot. While the bishop of the Notre Dame diocese spoke out against the president’s upcoming appearance at the university, school officials were generally silent or awkwardly supportive of welcoming the most pro-abortion leader ever to reach this country’s highest office. What our Commander in Chief needs is a meeting with the Supreme Commander of the Universe-- a real come to Jesus meeting!

True Christian America is finding its voice

Obama is simply not Christian by definition. Today in America the variety of so-called Christians can be symbolized by a bottle of Heinz 57 sauce. We have many denominations that follow the essential doctrines of the faith. But beyond that it gets ugly. Mainstream and fringe cults are everywhere claiming to be ‘Christian’ while reducing Jesus to anything but the true Christ of the gospels. There are liberal theological seminaries teaching a Christ who is not divine and not truly resurrected. There are the CEO’s (Christmas and Easter Only) whose relationship with God is obligatorily penciled in to social calendar. George Barna’s research has been following church trends for decades. His studies show a steep decline in Christians who attend church, believe in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible, and claim the only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ. Even among those claiming to be born again, a near majority seem ambivalent to such anti-Christian issues as gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia, pre-marital sex, and divorce. What was once a distinct Christian America, now more closely resembles the world. As a pastor, I have seen the decline and it hurts me deeply. But don’t count God out just yet. What remains of true Christian America is finding its voice. A new boldness is being evidenced. Instead of tolerating the disdainful pronouncements of Obama, believers are waking up to what I believe will be the next true revival. It won’t come from the political realm, but from the spiritual. It will gather momentum as true followers of Christ show they are not ashamed of the Gospel. It will come with prayer preceding action.
