Tolerance and Too Much Tolerance

The American culture was designed and built on a foundation of tolerance. The United States Constitution provides for individual rights, and those rights expect everyone in America to tolerate the views of others no matter how different those views may be from your own. For the best part of 250 years, this approach allowed the United States of America to become the most exceptional country to ever exist on the planet. Tolerance made America the greatest cultural melting pot in the world, making an American the most unique creature on earth.

If an American migrates to France, he will never become a Frenchman. If an American migrates to England, he will never become an Englishman. Anyone who migrates to the United States of America, integrates into the American culture and societal norms, and becomes a naturalized citizen, becomes and American. The reason is that from the very beginning Americans were a blend of people from nearly every European nation. That blend formed a new and unique cultural identity we call Americans. Tolerance is what got us here.

There is no such thing as African Americans. There are only Americans whose skin is black. That is probably the only thing Whoopi Goldberg and I agree on. There is no such thing as Mexican Americans, Chinese Americans, Native Americans, or any other term prefacing American. There are only Americans with various skin tones. Those divisive terms are an evil effort to divide Americans and create animosity between Americans with varying ethnic backgrounds. It is so stupid that if I identified myself that way I would be a Scots Irish British German Polish American or maybe a mongrel American. That is not to say that Americans should ignore their ethnic heritage, which is a proud part of everyone’s family history. But don’t let stupid, hateful people divide us that way. Tolerance to our ethnic differences is what got us here.

It is nice to be tolerant. However, there is such a thing as too much tolerance. Therefore, nice and tolerant can be a receipt for societal and cultural suicide. America is on the cusp of being too nice and too tolerant.

• We should not tolerate a person in Congress who states that Somalia is more important to her than Minnesota or the United States.
• We should not tolerate any elected official who is not committed to America and Americans first.
• We should not tolerate people defecating in the streets like animals.
• We should not tolerate any aliens who refuse to assimilate into our culture and society.
• We should not tolerate any person in America illegally.
• We should not tolerate any shoplifting, micro-looting, or any other form of theft.
• We should not tolerate any violent demonstrations on the streets of America.
• We should not tolerate defacing or destroying government property.
• We should not tolerate even the most minimal crime to go unpunished.
• We should not tolerate activist judges who are destroying our judicial system.
• We should not tolerate “migrants” in America that fly their home country’s flag; those people should be repatriated to the country of their origin.

No doubt you have your own favorites that should be on this list. However, I think I’ve made my point. Too much nice and too much tolerance can get us into the kinds of trouble we are currently seeing all over America.

To carry on from Churchill’s thought, we’ve tried tolerance, and it is biting us in the butt. It is well past time for America to pull on its big-boy pants and inflict some tough love on anyone and everyone who is violating our laws or our cultural norms. There are “immigrants” who wish to change America to the hell-holes they came from. That can’t be tolerated.

There is a line from the movie ‘Roadhouse' where the lead character advises his bouncer staff: “Be nice, until it is time not to be nice.” I will paraphrase that line: Be tolerant, until it is time not to be tolerant. The time for unquestioning tolerance has passed in America. If we love our country and want to save our cultural traditions, it is time to inflict tough love on those who don’t love America, no matter what their status.
