Two men arrested in break-and-enter investigation, $4 million in property recovered

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an investigation into multiple break-and-enters in the Toronto, York, Halton and Peel areas.

It is alleged that:

• since 2011, the accused gained entry into numerous industrial businesses
• they stole a large quantity of brass, copper and other metal fittings

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, York Regional Police arrested two men in connection with this investigation, outside a Markham business. Police are not releasing the names of the arrested men at this time due to the ongoing investigation. A subsequent investigation by York Regional Police, 5 District Property Crimes, revealed that a large quantity of stolen property was being stored at a warehouse in Toronto. On Thursday, July 18, 2013, 31 Division Major Crime officers executed a search warrant at the warehouse. It is alleged that police located:

• over $2 million worth of copper and brass
• a $500,000 printing machine
• hollow copper and brass tubing
• a forklift truck
• a straight truck and four skids of auto parts
• copper shredder, copper, and nickel
• industrial cardboard compacter

The total estimated value of property recovered at this time is $4 million. Police also recovered a large quantity of copper, industrial-size metal cutters, and two industrial-size generators. The owner(s) of this property have not yet been located.
