International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People,
In a message commemorating November 29th as the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People,” United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that he was “deeply saddened by the growing number of Palestinian civilians who have lost their lives in the spiral of violence engulfing the occupied West Bank.” The Secretary General failed at the same time to acknowledge the growing number of Israeli civilians killed and injured by Palestinian terrorists. Perhaps he did not want to ruin the Palestinians’ special day, although that is no excuse for obscuring the truth. At the very least, however, Secretary General Guterres should have acknowledged the fact that this November 29th is important for an entirely different reason. It is the 75th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of Resolution 181 – the original two-state solution.

UN today actively promotes the Palestinians’ false narrative of victimhood

The 1947 General Assembly resolution called for the partition of the British Mandate territory of Palestine into two independent states, one Arab and one Jewish, with Jerusalem to be governed separately under international administration. The Jewish community residing there accepted the compromise plan. The Arabs, however, rejected the plan outright, beginning a repeated pattern of refusals to accept any compromises in the interest of genuine peace. Instead, the Palestinians, with help from neighboring Arab states, began a long campaign of wars and terrorist attacks aimed at annihilating the Jewish state. In 1947, the UN tried to become part of the solution, which could have saved many lives and led to a very different future for the Palestinians and Israelis. But the UN today has another agenda altogether. It is intent on erasing the truth of how Palestinians and their enablers chose the path of violence rather than accept the compromise two-state solution that would have given the Palestinians their own state so many years ago. Instead, the UN today actively promotes the Palestinians’ false narrative of victimhood. The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed frustration with the UN’s pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel bias at the UN Security Council’s November 28th meeting on the Middle East. “Unfortunately, most UN actions related to Israelis and Palestinians are not designed to advance direct negotiations, let alone achieve peace,” Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said. “They are only intended to denigrate Israel.”

Dmitry Polyanskiy, demonstrated the Russian regime’s breathtaking hypocrisy

When it was Russia’s turn to address the Security Council, its First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, demonstrated the Russian regime’s breathtaking hypocrisy. Polyanskiy shamelessly accused Israel of using disproportionate force. He said that Russia disapproves of Israel’s “method of defending national security.” Really? The Russian regime invaded Ukraine, an independent sovereign nation, on the pretext of protecting Russia’s national security. During Russia’s war of aggression, it has launched barrages of missiles and drones aimed at Ukrainian civilian population centers that have killed or injured thousands of Ukrainian civilians. Russia has also launched air strikes against Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure facilities for the purpose of trying to freeze the Ukrainian people into submission. Polyanskiy represents a regime that has committed multiple war crimes against Ukrainian civilians. Yet he complains about the actions that Israel’s military has taken to defend its civilian population against Palestinian terrorist attacks! That is no surprise, of course, considering the source. Sadly, neither is the UN bureaucracy’s pro-Palestinian stance and its bias against Israel.
