UN Ignores Israeli Demand for Condemnation of Hezbollah Rocket Attacks

UN Ignores Israeli Demand for Condemnation of Hezbollah Rocket AttacksThe Islamist terrorist group Hezbollah is running Lebanon on behalf of its patron, the Iranian regime. The Deputy Attorney General of the puppet Lebanese Government released four Hezbollah terrorists who were responsible for recently shooting rockets into Israel. On August 6th, Hezbollah had fired from within civilian areas a barrage of 19 rockets into northern Israel. This attack came only two days after the terrorist organization had fired 3 rockets at Israel.
Israel's Ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, lashed out at the decision in a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres and the UN Security Council. Ambassador Erdan called upon the Security Council to condemn the attacks unequivocally, and “to denounce in no uncertain terms the Lebanese Government’s lack of action in this matter, in violation of its international obligations and in complicity with Iran and Hezbollah." Of course, neither the Security Council nor the Secretary General will do any such thing. UN officials either blame Israel for the outbreak of violence when Israel defends its citizens against terrorist rocket attacks from the north and the south, or we hear vague statements that treat the terrorists and Israel as if they were morally equivalent. In this case, Secretary General Guterres said simply that it was important for all sides “to avoid actions that can further heighten tensions and lead to miscalculation.” The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFI, also called for both sides to show restraint, rather than call out Hezbollah specifically for its aggression. Ambassador Erdan wrote in his letter, "The release of the four terrorists clearly smacks of politics, and underlines the extent of Iran’s and its proxy, Hezbollah’s, domination of local government and power in Lebanon. Moreover, such an act of impunity serves only to encourage further attacks on Israel, severely endangering regional stability and civilians on both sides of the Blue Line. In this context, it is important to recall that these types of attacks – perpetrated from within populated areas using local Lebanese residents as human shields – imperil not only Israel and Israelis, but Lebanese civilians as well." Even some of the Lebanese people are becoming fed up with Hezbollah’s brazen actions that are putting civilians’ lives in danger. The Times of Israel reported on August 6th that “Druze residents in a southern Lebanese village halted the Hezbollah crew with its rocket launchers that had fired into Israel.”

Secretary General Guterres and the Security Council have been put on notice: Israel will certainly not wait for permission from the United Nations before it forcefully responds

Some of the villagers shouted, “Hezbollah is firing rockets from between homes so that Israel hits us back.” The villagers were right. But unfortunately, they handed over the terrorists they had detained to the Lebanese Army, which is powerless compared to Hezbollah. And the puppet masters holding Hezbollah’s strings are the thugs running the Iranian regime. As Mordechai Kedar of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies wrote, “’Lebanon’ has not existed for quite some time. The country’s agenda is dictated by Tehran, and its military and economy are designed to serve the needs of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.” Hezbollah is no doubt doing some of Iran’s dirty work in opening up another front in the terrorist-sponsoring regime’s escalating clashes with Israel. Hezbollah’s rocket launches followed in the wake of an attack on a merchant tanker managed by an Israeli company that killed two people, which U.S. officials say was executed by an Iranian-manufactured drone. Hezbollah may also be testing the resolve of the new Israeli coalition government. Israel has shown remarkable patience to date. But Secretary General Guterres and the Security Council have been put on notice. If Hezbollah goes too far and threatens Israeli civilian population centers as Hamas’s rocket barrages did last May, Israel will certainly not wait for permission from the United Nations before it forcefully responds.
