UN Report: The number of human rights abuses in Iran continues to skyrocket

About a month ago, President Barack Obama informed us that we could all rest easy. The honorable, peace-loving, pacifists that run Iran had assured him that they did not want a nuclear weapon - because it's against their religion. That's great news, because the Mullahs have never shown themselves to be exactly what you'd call the "nicest people" on the planet.

Unfortunately, there are a few things which are not against their religion. Among them is "engaging in an ever expanding laundry list of human rights violations." According to a new United Nations report, the deeply pious Iranian regime executed just over 750 people last year. That's up from 687 in 2013, and the number has increased - sometimes dramatically - every year since 2004. Sadly, murdering gays, dissidents, and political opponents is just the beginning. As the Washington Free Beacon reports:
The report also highlighted the continued repression of journalists, noting numerous instances of reporters being arrested for supposed "national security" crimes. One blogger, Soheil Arabi, has been sentenced to death for publishing "insulting" blog posts about the government. Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian has been imprisoned since last July on still unannounced charges. "Charges [against journalists] include vaguely worded 'national security' crimes, such as 'propaganda against the system,' 'assembly and collusion against the system,' 'insulting the Supreme Leader,' and "spreading falsehoods with intent to agitate the public consciousness,'" said the report. Shaheed also noted that more than 90 Christians are currently imprisoned for religion-related charges. "Authorities reportedly continued to target the leaders of house churches, generally from Muslim backgrounds," said the report. "Christian converts also allegedly continue to face restrictions in observing their religious holidays."
Take heart, America. These are the people with whom Obama is eager to enter into an unenforceable, non-legally binding deal that eventually grants access to a nuclear weapon. Thank goodness they're so religious. If they weren't, we might have cause to suspect that this band of murderous oppressors were lying when they promised our glorious White House occupant that they had no interest in becoming an abusive terrorist nation with a nuke. Phew!
