Cashmere, WA - Liberty Counsel is demanding that the Chelan County Fair retract its unfair and discriminating restriction on a religious group.

For the last several years, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) has manned a booth at the Chelan County Fair, where it has shared the gospel of Christ through the Wordless Book, face painting, and literature. However, this year’s contract added a new stipulation: CEF “cannot distribute anything to anyone under the age of 18, unless accompanied by an adult.” Only CEF has had the parental accompaniment stipulation added. Liberty Counsel demanded that the Chelan County Fair retract its restriction and present CEF the same Vendor Booth Contract that every other vendor receives. “Chelan County is engaged in viewpoint discrimination,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “The only rationale for this added restriction on Child Evangelism Fellowship is ignorance of the law or animosity toward the message.” Liberty Counsel has been successful in helping CEF fight discrimination all across America. Many issues are solved without litigation, but Liberty Counsel does not hesitate to sue when officials are unwilling to abide by the Constitution. Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics. www.LC.org
