Marines in transit at McCarran Airport

USO Las Vegas wish list

In the ongoing effort to bring a desperately needed USO facility to the Las Vegas airport, I have run into several people who typify the term “real American”. In spite of the incredible amount of bureaucratic stalling they have run into, both from local and national leaders, they have continued to push this effort forward. Now it looks like at the very least our efforts will create a temporary facility.

As a note of correction, Steve Sanson was not alone bringing food for the Marines at McCarran. Terri Dunn pushed the cart with all the food and they showed up as a group with Col. Ed Bridges and Jim Jonas. These are some of the real Americans I’m talking about. It is also good to note that after Fox News led the way, Channel 8 showed up the day after to do a follow up. So there’s Fox and CBS. The others are still no shows as far as any patriotism is concerned. In talking to the Marines coming through McCarran on their way to 29 Palms I asked them what they could use as far as amenities were concerned. For those liberals and Review Journal reporters reading this, “amenities” are defined in this case as “something that conduces to comfort, convenience, or enjoyment “. They were more than happy to give me suggestions. I’m listing them here. If you have any of these items and are in a position to donate them for our facility, please let me know through the comments section or via email.
  1. Couches and comfortable chairs
  2. TVs
  3. Video Game systems
  4. DVD players
  5. Snacks (this one was repeated)
  6. A way to store their bags (some sort of rack system I think)
  7. Music CDs and DVDs
  8. Beverages, including pop, ice tea (A southern boy insisted on sweet tea), juices, etc.
  9. Computers
  10. Girls (they asked for this, but I think they’re on their own in this case)
  11. A library with books (that’s right, Marines can read. That’s more than most liberals)
Today I have been receiving call after call on this issue. We are very close and a good reason for this is that word of mouth is getting back to those who make the decisions. When the leaders of the party that wrote me off because I “was too honest to be trusted” start calling after 2 years you know they are beginning to feel the heat from the voters. Now Clark County is beginning to respond, in spite of Harry Reid. (How’s that 38% approval rate doing for ya Harry?) And it looks like I will be getting the plans I need from the USO so even the most obdurate county staffer will have to agree that we have our ducks in a row. Thank Peter Cristof, Steve Sanson, Terri Dunn, Jim Jonas and Colonel Ed Bridges. They are the real patriots in this fight.
