In a truly bizarre turn of events in Rome, the Vatican has informed the Summorum Pontificum pilgrims that they are not allowed to enter St. Peter’s Basilica for their annual pilgrimage of gratitude to the late Pope Benedict XVI for restoring the Latin Mass to the altars of the Catholic Church.
You read that right! The pilgrims will be barred by Vatican police from entering St. Peter's.
In other words, after the July SSPX “disobedience” the Vatican decided to make a prophet out of the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre who, forty years ago, argued that the Vatican can under no circumstances be trusted to do the right thing where traditional Catholics are concerned.
Turns out, he was right! The Vatican is in the process of cancelling the Latin Mass worldwide, driving Latin Mass Catholics out of their own churches, and now slamming the Holy Doors of St. Peter’s in their face.
Incredibly, this comes just after the Vatican opened those same doors to a LGBT “pilgrimage” of desecration into St. Peter’s Basilica last year.
Covering this story from Rome, however, Michael Matt argues that there is a silver lining to all this. What is it? Watch and see.
