VIDEO: Obama faces the music after America rejects his entire presidential legacy

In way, it has to be one of the toughest speeches he's ever given. No one wants to show up and face the music after you've lost, although he can take some solace in the fact that he personally never lost. But his side did, and to the extent Hillary based her campaign on the idea that she wanted to continue his legacy, he lost big-time. And yet, when you're on the losing side, in many ways the pressure's off. All you have to do is show a basic modicum of grace and people give you credit for showing class. It's really not that high a bar to clear. But give credit to Obama. When he wants to be gracious, he's very good at it, and he knew that today he had no other option:

Obama didn't take any questions, which would have been entertaining. But there will be time enough for that. And I don't think I'm overstating it when I say that last night's results do indeed constitute a rejection of his entire legacy. Why? It's not so much because the voters overlooked Trump's flaws for the purpose of rejecting Hillary. You can lay that at the feet of Hillary and her awfulness, and I think you'd be right in doing so. But the voters knew that by electing Trump and sending Republican majorities back to Capitol Hill, they were setting the stage for the repeal of ObamaCare and a complete change in direction with respect to the nation's economic, social and national security policies. He and Hillary tried to make the case that we are doing the best we can do, while the Trump campaign offered a rejoinder best expressed by Mike Pence. No, this isn't the best we can do. It's only the best they can do. Come January, Trump and the Republican Congress can be expected to move quickly to dismantle Obama's entire policy platform, and to replace it with something the favors business growth and broader prosperity. And yes, Obama's "signature legislative achievement" as the media like to call it should be among the first things to go. That's a tough reality to suck up as you stand there and face the music. He did pretty well.
