Yep.

VIDEO: Two years ago, Mika Brzezinski sure was flirty with . . . Donald Trump?

Judge for yourself if it's anything. This is mainly footage from 2015 when Trump's pursuit of the presidency was in its early stages and most people didn't think he seriously had a chance to win the nomination, let alone the presidency itself. Two years can be a long time, both in politics and in personal relationships, but given what we've seen in the past week, this is . . . interesting, no?
A lot of people are speculating that this Brzezinksi had a crush on Trump, with this video serving as the proof. The subsequent hostility, as this theory goes, stems from having been teased but ultimately rejected. Meanwhile, again according to this theory, Scarborough sees Trump as a latent threat, since he's the one who ended up having the affair with Mika that ultimately resulted in both of them leaving their spouses and becoming engaged to each other. My take? No. My take is actually less charitable than that. I think Mika Brzezinski is not a very serious person and has no shame about being a flirty type of personality. That might explain why Trump thinks she's crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if many other guests have experienced the exact same type of behavior. Their hostility toward Trump now is more likely about the Beltway culture's general disdain for the man, and the fact that these two are creatures of the Beltway and don't want to be out of step with prevailing thought among establishment types. But it's true that they used to have Trump on fairly regularly for pretty friendly interviews, and that they really only turned on him when it became clear that he would win the nomination and would represent the primary obstacle to a Hillary presidency. At that point he was no longer a spoiler for the Republican field. He was the Republican field. MSNBC can't be friendly with that.

I don't what the president is doing in his Twitter war with these two, not because I have any sympathy for them but because I agree that it's beneath the dignity of his office to make the insults so personal. I don't object to his using Twitter to attack the media in general - in fact, I want to see him do more of it because it's exposing their dishonesty - but the whole business about being bloody and the facelift were beyond the pale. I defend the president more often than not because I think most of the criticism aimed at him is illegitimate. But sometimes he goes too far. He did so when he insulted Heidi Cruz, and he did so in this case as well. I support his policy agenda (mostly), and will continue to do so. But I'm not going to defend him when he's just plain wrong. That said, the full history of the relationships here show the whole thing in a very different context. It's a context worth knowing about. Mika Brzezinski uses this behavior as a way to manipulate her guests. In this case, she probably wishes she hadn't.
