Police not only have to contend with being shot at, attacked by bad guys attempting to get away but risk being killed simply because they are cops. When they defend themselves, they risk criminal charges, dismissals and condemnation

WDCX radio launches ‘Props to Cops’ campaign

WDCX is a Christian radio station, part of the Crawford Broadcasting Company. The station broadcasts on FM 99.5 and AM 970 in Buffalo, New York, as well as on AM 990 in Rochester. The station covers much of Western New York as well as parts of Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario including the Greater Toronto Area. During the month of July, WDCX and the Crawford Broadcasting Company will be running a “Props to Cops” campaign. Businesses that agree to take part in the endeavour will offer discounts to police and other law enforcement officials in the United States and Canada as a way of thanking the men and women of law enforcement for the work they do. Participating businesses will then be promoted on the station’s local programming.
As well, WDCX will interview police officers in Western New York and Southern Ontario and listeners will have the opportunity to thank them for their work. In a press release, WDCX General Manager Brett Larson said, “Law enforcement represents the thin blue line that exists between us and chaos. Everyone is against police brutality, but we are proud to say we are 100% FOR law enforcement!” The campaign stems from what is seen as attacks on police such as the murders of NYDP officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu who were shot to death while sitting in their car in Brooklyn on December 20, 2014. They were shot and killed simply because they were police officers. Their deaths followed protests over the killings of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in New York City. Only weeks before the double murder a grand jury decided not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s death. Since the deaths of Brown in Ferguson, Garner on Staten Island and Freddie Gray in Baltimore, the left, from Obama on down, have been waging a war against police. In order to appease the rioting mob in Baltimore, prosecutor Marilyn Mosby quickly charged six Baltimore officers in Gray’s death, including one charge of murder against an officer that, most experts agree, is not substantiated by the facts. In the wake of the deaths of Ramos and Liu, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani blamed Obama for taking part of the anti-police propaganda by showing more concern for the deaths of Brown and Garner than the killings of Ramos and Liu.

A few days ago, Najee Harmon, 19, was arrested for armed robbery and the shooting and wounding of a Milwaukee detective. A friend of Harmon’s defended him, telling WISN, “'Cause to me he didn’t do no wrong. He just shot a cop…” This is an attitude that is all too common in present day America. The shooting of the detective who was “just a cop” received virtually no media coverage outside of the Milwaukee area. But the mainstream media was only too happy to jump on the anti-cop bandwagon. This was most noticeable after the Ferguson incident after one witness claimed Brown was in the process of surrendering when he was shot and killed. The most egregious example of the mainstream media’s position was when some CNN personalities assumed the “hands up, don’t shoot” pose in solidarity with the Ferguson rioters. Forensic evidence and statements of other witnesses, some African American, showed Brown was not surrendering but charging at the officer when he was shot. Police in the United States now not only have to contend with being shot at and attacked by bad guys attempting to get away, but risk being killed simply because they are cops. When they defend themselves, they risk criminal charges, dismissals and condemnation from their government and the media. WDCX and Crawford Broadcasting Company should be commended for doing something to recognize the work of the brave men and women in law enforcement who are now seen by many in society as the bad guys. Any businesses interested in participating in Props to Cops, can receive more information on the campaign by writing to WDCX at propstocops@wdcxradio.com.
