'We didn't seek impeachment of President Bush' - Says Dem Rep who tried to impeach Bush

You may know Sheila Jackson Lee as the Texas Democrat Representative who thinks the Constitution is 400 years old, believes that South Vietnam still exists, and that U.S. astronauts planted a flag on Mars. Now, she has a new claim to dubious fame. She's angry about the non-existent potential impeachment of Barack Obama, so she's reminding everyone that nobody tried to impeach George W. Bush.

Today, Sheila Jackson Lee said:

I ask my colleagues to oppose this resolution for it is in fact a veiled attempt at impeachment and it undermines the law that allows a president to do his job. A historical fact: President Bush pushed this nation into a war that had little to do with apprehending terrorists. We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as an executive, he had his authority. President Obama has the authority."

Unfortunately, as Buzzfeed points out. Democrats absolutely did try to impeach George W. Bush back in 2008. ...And they did so - specifically - for the reason Sheila Jackson Lee outlines. Here's the summary of the impeachment bill, H.Res. 1258 via the Library of Congress. As you can see, it was sponsored by left-wing standard bearer Dennis Kucinich, and targeted Bush due to "Deceiving Congress With Fabricated Threats of Iraq WMDs To Fraudulently Obtain Support for an Authorization of the Use of Military Force Against Iraq." That's a tired old saw, and it's not the interesting part. The interesting part is the list of co-sponsors. Yep, right there at number six is Texas' most famous embarrassment, Sheila Jackson Lee. So, not only is she lying when she says "no one tried to impeach Bush," she is actually one of the people who tried to do it! We knew Ms. Jackson Lee was utterly ignorant where U.S. history is concerned, but we had no idea she was also completely ignorant of her own history as well. Impressive.
