How to Take Our Country Back

In my last column I pointed out the fact that the United States of America is not a liberal country. There are some who dispute this but just because the majority of our politicians, media heads and school board members are liberal does not make the country so. A country’s culture is not the same as its government and American culture is decidedly not liberal. The so-called European Union knows this and a brief search of comments they make about Americans will show this.

No, the media may wish America to be viewed as yet another namby-pamby squidgy version of the European Union. You may see a never ending repetition of that dream echoed in nearly every Hollywood production, but their opinion is not the opinion of Joe Sixpack, and believe it or not, Joe Sixpack lives in the core of an overwhelming majority of US citizens. What needs to happen is that Joe needs to begin voting again and therein lays the solution to taking our country back. In the last election Obama was sold as something he never was and never will be, but because the GOP offered up the least charismatic candidate they could find, and one that really wasn’t a conservative to begin with, Obama won handily. The addition of Sarah Palin, the real conservative on the ticket, wasn’t enough to buoy McCain’s chances. When the GOP leadership clamped the muzzle onto Palin, the die was cast and Joe Sixpack stayed home in droves. If we are really lucky and a real conservative, not just a neocon, with the requisite combination of guts, charisma and proven administrative ability comes forward, those who stayed home will have someone to vote for. Right now the papers and airwaves are being flooded with campaign ads shouting the phony accomplishments of quivering liberal incumbents terrified at the prospect of having to get a real job. These ads are being paid for by assorted socialist PACs equally terrified at the prospect of an America reenergized and moving forward on the right track. Why do you think Obama and the Democrats placed onto the Supreme Court a woman with a record of racist beliefs, including the support of a Latino group whose goal is the eventual overthrow of the United States? The border fence in San Diego, despite cries of bigotry and inhumanity from the liberals, reduced illegal immigration and the rate of crime in the city just north of its installation. Even Mexico’s immigration official agreed that the construction of a fence on its northern border would reduce significantly the amount of illegals crossing into the US. Representative Duncan Hunter used these facts in his run for the presidency during the last election. His problem was that he was far too conservative for the GOP leadership’s collective stomachs, which is another reason why the people need to do the choosing. When I was running for my second term in the Nevada Assembly a supportive wag decided to send me a phony video disguised as a news report on the growing grassroots popularity of an unknown as the next American President. That unknown turned out to be me. As funny as it was, the idea is sound. Nearly every state in the union has a referendum process embedded into its law. Through this process the people can force recalcitrant legislatures and administrations to do the right thing. In many states this right is being hidden and in others it is under attack by politicians who would rather not be inconvenienced by dealing with the masses. According to every constitution in the United States, both state and federal, the people have the right to choose their leaders. Currently it is the parties doing this because the people have ceded their authority and those in authority are more than willing to have this happen. In Nevada we have electronic voting machines. According to every authoritative interpretation of the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution all that amendment does is “prohibit” discrimination in granting voting rights. The constitution in itself does not specifically grant that right which leads to the current mishmash we have in nearly every state handling national elections differently than their neighbors. To fix this the people will have to insist on a right to vote for the candidate of their choosing, not just the person the party placed on the ballot. This could lead to a larger number of names on the ballot, but that is why we have primaries. The proper conservative candidate will have to be able to speak intelligibly with or without the aid of a teleprompter, be able to appear presidential in suit or jeans, be able to delegate with wisdom and not on the basis of favoritism or because of an agenda. The proper candidate will know the difference between the free market and licentiousness. He or she will believe in the differences between “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and the creation of a dependent class. In the core of a true conservative candidate will be the belief that all people are created equal and that having wealth does not make one superior in the eye of the law to one without wealth, and most important of all…being born of a minority race does not immediately give a man or woman more opportunity than someone else just to “level the playing field”. That belief belongs with the bigots on the left. Such a list could go on for several pages but the synopsis is this: for far too long we have had administrations ignoring the constitution for the sake of politics. We now need one that will stand upon the constitution in spite of politics. If such a candidate comes forth the people will respond. I did that and the leadership in the Nevada GOP did everything but phony up felony charges against me. They tried to force in a puppet of their own choosing who had already violated finance reporting laws. Because of that I had to actually oppose my own party simply to remain honest…too honest for some in power. A real conservative will not blindly follow the party line. That sort of gutlessness gave us Bush 2. Real conservatism would have prevented the ENRON debacle, Madoff’s little scam and most certainly the ACORN-supporting policies that caused our current economic dilemma, but the powers that be opposed every candidate that it the bill. I know, I saw that opposition first hand. I can’t be the only politician with a pair, can I?
