What I Do About Car Break-ins and Car Jacking

I'm not super sleuth Easy Rawling nor Muhammad Ali but am inspired by them and more to stand up for my community. At my last two consulting contracts the ugly shadow of car break-ins fell over parking lots belonging to the building where I managed security. Not surprisingly, I stationed myself in the lot with the most break-ins and warded off area thieves. The direct approach is often the best one. Before and after the break-in spree I'd also walk female patrons and staff to their cars since harassment and robbery routinely happened in that area.

Our carjacking crisis in New Orleans recently prompted me to label informally watching out for female friends as "Borrow A Brother," where I scan the vicinity while they get gas. This same theme could be duplicated in neighborhoods where residents could have porch parties where they take turns watching parked vehicles at night which are being broken into with abandon. Revisiting my "Borrow A Brother" offering, imagine a "Safe Pumping Day" at a cooperating gas station watched over by volunteers and broadcast on media to give concerned drivers a safer refueling experience? These options are by no means exhaustive. They're simply offerings any of us can provide to create safety in this unsafe time. Just like some misuse Power to produce insecurity, we can use ours to create safety at a time when it's sorely needed. This is what I do about car break-ins and car jacking. We all can do something.
