Septage, sewage from septic tanks

Will the OLA find justice in Renfrew?

In the spring of 2008, the Township of Horton in Renfrew County decided to install two 10000 gallon "septage" (sewage from septic tanks) storage tanks in the ground on Township property so they could participate in an experimental pilot project of spreading "septage" on farm land. The location that the Township chose is the problem. The tanks are directly across the road from Larry and Cindy Reid's house. The Reid family strongly objected to the planned location of the tanks as would any family. Who would want 20000 gallons of human manure - "septage" - stored in the ground only 125 feet from their home?

The objections of the Reid family fell on the deaf ears of government who have proven themselves to be bad neighbours. The M.O.E., O.M.A.F.R.A. and the township turned their backs on the Reid family saying that no regulation was being broken therefore the "septage" tanks could be installed. The truth is that because "the installation of "septage" storage tanks in the ground is a new experimental pilot project" - there has not yet been the opportunity to write the regulations. There are no regulations! In glaring contrast, if Larry Reid, who is a farmer, wanted to build a storage tank for cattle manure on his farm, he would have to comply with the stringent requirements of the "Nutrient Management Act" a part of which is the "Minimum Distance of Separation Formula" (MDSF). The "MDSF" is used to calculate the minimum required distance between the nearest house and any proposed manure storage tank before the M.O.E., O.M.A.F.R.A. or the Township could issue a building permit to build a manure storage tank. The "MDSF" distance could be in excess of 1000 feet. Larry Reid could not build a manure storage tank beside his barn because the M.O.E., O.M.A.F.R.A., and the Township would enforce this regulation. On June 23, 2008, the Ontario Landowners Association (OLA) held a protest action of 50 OLA members in support of the Reid family at the Horton Township office. The Township office (three employees) was closed for three hours while the OLA held a press conference to expose the wrongful actions of government to the public. Construction was temporarily halted. The response of Horton Township and the Renfrew O.P.P. was to charge Cindy Reid, Larry Reid, Edward Kennedy and Jack MacLaren with a criminal charge of "mischief". A conviction will result in a criminal record. These four OLA members will go to court to defend themselves against these wrongful charges laid by a clearly vindictive government and police force on April 30 and May 1 in the town of Renfew. There will be a mass protest of OLA members from across Ontario on the steps of the Renfrew Court House, 127 Raglan St. South (main street), Renfrew on the morning of April 30 at 9.00 A.M. to fight for the Constitutional Right to Public Assembly and Freedom of Speech as Guaranteed in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Ontario Landowners Association——

The Ontario Landowners Association shall defend and promote the principal of strong local governments, democracy, and natural justice and represent the interests of the rural community.

For Rural Ontario to survive, Property Rights and judicial reform must be enshrined into law at all three levels of Government, these being; Federal, Provincial, and Municipal.

Rural Ontario is under systematic attack by government bureaucracy and false environmentalism.

The Ontario Landowners have and will continue to expose and meet these threats with determination and resolve in the court of public opinion.
