Winnipeg - The Can’t-Do City

The WRHA promised a building at Higgins & Main with street-level access to shops. We didn't get it. The downtown arena we were sold on was a stunning building with faux northern lights on the exterior.

Instead we got yet another boring brick building. The fund-raising group for the Human Rights Museum raised the funds based on a design that we are now told may differ from the finished building. Mayor Sam Katz promised us a rapid-transit corridor down Pembina Highway that he now wants to abandon before completion in favour of road projects. Diamond lanes which were provided to make bus and bicycle travel more efficient during rush hour may soon be congested with car-pool vehicles and most likely, the new football arena at the U of M will be a mere shadow of the facility that we were promised. In the light of these events I propose that the City adopt a new motto. "Winnipeg - The Can't-Do City". R J de Graff Winnipeg
