Expanding the powers of WHO and its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is a recipe for further globalist erosion of U.S. national sovereignty and ceding more economic advantage to China

World Health Organization’s Advancing Intrusion on U.S. Sovereignty

The World Health Assembly re-elected Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on May 24th to a second 5-year term as the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General. Tedros was the Chinese Communist regime’s stooge as the coronavirus began to spread from China, where it originated, to other countries. Tedros praised China’s self-serving response to the coronavirus, during the early days of the coronavirus’s spread when it could have been stopped. Indeed, Tedros helped promote China’s initial lie that the virus was not transmissible from human to human. He has stood by while the Chinese regime continues to block an independent, comprehensive, and transparent investigation of the coronavirus’s origin in its country, including an unfettered inspection by credible outside experts of China’s virology labs.

WHO’s International Health Regulations are deemed a binding international legal agreement amongst all the Member States of WHO

The Biden administration reversed former President Donald Trump’s decision to sever ties between the United States and WHO. The self-proclaimed Mr. Science, Dr. Anthony Fauci, praised Tedros as “my dear friend” when he declared that "I am honored to announce that the United States will remain a member of the World Health Organization." Now the Biden administration is willing to further sacrifice a portion of U.S. sovereignty over its own health policies and decisions to the World Health Organization. This would happen as a result of amendments that the Biden administration has proposed to WHO’s International Health Regulations. By way of background, WHO’s International Health Regulations are deemed a binding international legal agreement amongst all the Member States of WHO, which once again includes the United States thanks to President Biden. A "public health emergency of international concern” is defined in the International Health Regulations as “an extraordinary event which is determined to constitute a public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease and to potentially require a coordinated international response.” The question is how this determination is made. It used to be done in a consultative manner with the concurrence of the sovereign nation(s) where the triggering extraordinary event was detected. Under the radar, the Biden administration has proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations that will do away with this required Member State concurrence. The amendments would effectively empower WHO’s re-elected Director-General (China’s protector as COVID-19 initially spread beyond China’s borders) to determine what constitutes a "public health emergency of international concern.” The Director-General would then seek technical advice, if he so chooses, on how to proceed from a panel of international experts, chosen from a list established primarily by the Director-General himself, known as the “Emergency Committee.”

WHO could also intrude into such public policy matters as climate change or restrictions on abortion

The World Health Organization Director-General could act on his own, without even having to consult with the country in whose territory the public health emergency of international concern is believed to have occurred, much less obtain its concurrence. These newly expanded powers open the door for Tedros to extend WHO’s reach beyond simply adding more outbreaks of disease to its list of public health emergencies of international concern. WHO could also intrude into such public policy matters as climate change or restrictions on abortion. The World Health Organization has already made its views known on both issues. The World Health Organization, for example, has already stated that “[C]limate and health are intimately linked…” The World Health Organization also criticized “restrictive” abortion regulation. “Multiple actions are needed at the legal, health system and community levels so that everyone who needs abortion care has access to it,” WHO has stated. With Tedros now feeling his oats after being re-elected to a second 5-year term, it is not a stretch to imagine that he might declare climate change or restrictive abortion regulation (or both) a “public health emergency of international concern,” warranting WHO’s intervention. The amendments to WHO’s International Health Regulations would also add a new “compliance” provision. A newly established “Compliance Committee” would have the responsibility. among other things, for “monitoring… matters relating to compliance with a view to assisting States Parties to comply with obligations under these Regulations."

United States will be played by China and its other adversaries

The power to “monitor” is fraught with the potential for abuse. Will this lead, for example, to internationally mandated digital vaccine passports for such activities as travel? Reggie Littlejohn, the president of Women's Rights Without Frontiers and an outspoken critic of human rights abuses in China, has warned of the potential dangers from WHO’s enhanced powers that the amendments would confer:
“The WHO seriously mishandled the Covid-19 pandemic, promoting the lies of the Chinese Communist Party, lies which caused the deaths of millions. Do you want these same non-elected incompetents telling the U.S. how to handle the next pandemic? Even without the  consent of the U.S. government, the W.H.O. could force the U.S. to vaccinate everyone, force mask mandates, lockdowns, and quarantines.”
The U.S., under the globalist policies of the Biden administration, will abide by WHO's edicts. China, as it does so often, will circumvent the edicts it does not perceive to be in its national interest or the Communist regime will ignore them altogether. Once again, as is the case with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the United States will be played by China and its other adversaries. In sum, expanding the powers of WHO and its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is a recipe for further globalist erosion of U.S. national sovereignty and ceding more economic advantage to China.
