As head of security for a hipster-misled community building before the pandemic, one awareness drill I'd do is catch a regular patron unawares by startling him with the warning, "Beware the zombie swarm!"
Political seasons surge their own zombie swarms as well. We're currently witnessing this fact in France and Italy as riots, arson, looting and vandalism test leaders resolve.
Understandably, security watchers in America are wondering whether such mayhem can happen here given a contentious congressional midterm election cycle barrelling toward its finale, high gas prices and rising supply chain costs.
I think such misgivings are not only timely but necessary. The side of the aisle trying to unseat current majorities in the US House and Senate needs a truly miserable 'misery index' of social issues to further make its case.
Conversely, the party in power can exploit French and Italian-style national unrest as proof that they need to win the midterm election in order to maintain order.
Wherever you fall on the political spectrum, please consider this post a warning.
Picture me figuratively sneaking up behind you like the past patron I'd startle to tell you, 'beware the zombie swarm.'
It's not like we haven't had politically motivated rioting here before.
