I talked to a police executive I know (Yes, my being Black doesn't mean hatred of all blue [police] people, shocking to some--but true).

We haven't talked in quite a while and exchanged pleasantries while referencing unpleasantries on many minds.

He's Black too, a law enforcement professional and executive whose career parallels mine as a safety advocate and private protection professional.

We faced the crack cocaine invasion of Black America

His ethnicity is noted because he's part of the protection wing of our community I reference and reverence-- albeit representing its problematic (to some) public sector.

Critics think professionals like him don't exist and I'm glad to disabuse them of such notions.

While he was a patrol officer, sergeant and lieutenant, I was a beginner activist, entry level protector in retail establishments, events, and bounty hunting, eventually culminating in my unique take on security management.

We faced the crack cocaine invasion of Black America from respective positions in the community and decades later, still confront its modern mutations as fentanyl devastates mainstream American youth the way crack did ours years ago.

Black men who agree on the God given duty to protect our neighborhoods can put differences aside to pursue this goal.

The police executive and I have been on opposing sides of protests and public issues more than once and likely will be so again.
We don't conflate differing opinions or positions within our coalition as being against each other.

The cause of re-securing our community is bigger than arguments coalition members have over other trending topics.
I know where he stands. He knows where I stand.

Stances understood, as Black men committed to our community protecting itself against violence and disorder, we choose to unite where we can and not obsess over where unity can't be as easily achieved.

We can either argue or unite where we can.
