QUEEN’S PARK – As fallout from the Liberal gas plant scandal cover up continues, Ontario PC Energy Critic Lisa MacLeod is calling for Ontario’s Chief Information Officer, David Nicholl, to step aside.
“He opened the door to the hacker who was given unfettered access to the Premier’s office and to public records, according to the OPP.” Police allege that Nicholl provided access to IT expert Peter Faist, who wiped the hard drives of 24 computers in the Premier’s Office. It is also alleged that Nicholl provided that access despite the protests of the province’s top public servant, Peter Wallace. “So today, we ask that he step aside. And if he does not do so willingly, we’re calling on Premier Wynne to do the right thing and have him take leave immediately.” It is estimated that the Liberal gas plant scandal has cost Ontario’s taxpayers $1.1 billion.
