TORONTO, – B’nai Brith Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Jewish Community, has extended congratulations to Benjamin Netanyahu on his election victory. Netanyahu’s joint Likud/Beytenu party is expected to win a combined 31 seats in the 120 seat Knesset, according to the exit polls.
Frank Dimant, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada, issued the following statement: “Today the people of Israel have spoken and exercised their democratic rights to elect a new government and we in the Diaspora Jewish community extend our very best wishes to them. Israel’s vibrant democracy is a beacon of light in an area of the world most often characterized by tyrannical dictators and oppressive regimes. The election results reflect the diversity of opinion that flourishes in the Jewish state where all citizens, including Israeli-Arabs, benefit from the right to vote, to hold office and to express themselves freely. This respect for democracy and freedom of expression is what the modern-day Jewish State is all about.
