American flag: Ongoing effort to encourage disaffected urban youth not to self-identify as outcasts, a choice powering violent crime and depression
Cap Black Adopts American Flag Motif
As a plain clothes creative activist devoid of flashiness, I closed my "costume gap" late last year by wearing shirts and hoodies emblazoned with American flag themes. I debuted this new look at the local Republican Women's Club of New Orleans, where I do a safety segment at their monthly meetings.
It's the latest phase of my initial idea in 2008 of mainstreaming creative activism ( variously called, RLSH and other terms ) into society, especially nearly non-existent police/Black community relations and conservative politics.
Under my "Cap Black" title-so spelled to avoid confusion with a cigar and alcoholic beverage named Captain Black-I successfully lobbied with a 2nd Amendment group to amend Louisiana's justified homicide statute, advocated on behalf of besieged self defense defendants and regularly appear on local and even national media, in addition to my blogging & street patrol, discussing trending crime issues.
The American flag motif is also part of an ongoing effort to encourage disaffected urban youth not to self-identify as outcasts, a choice powering violent crime and depression in this demographic. I remind them it's their flag-and country- too!
