Coalition idea still scary

The thought of a Liberal lead coalition government with the NDP, supported by the Bloc scares the daylights out of most Canadians and polls show six in ten oppose the idea. Those who support the coalition love to point out that the Conservatives only got 38% of the popular vote. Are they suggesting that when the Liberals formed government in 2004 with 38% support they were an illegitimate government?

The fact is that with the number of federal political parties we now have the liklihood of any party getting significantly more than 40% support is improbable. It should be apparent to any thinking Canadian that the wide spread in ideology between the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc make the liklihood of any kind of lasting consensus between them extremely problematic and the last thing the country needs in these unstable economic times. Harper and the Conservatives won the 2008 election fair and square with a muscular minority mandate from the people. They increased their seats significantly from 124 to 143 and climbed to within a dozen seats of a majority with suprising gains in Atlantic Canada, especially in New Brunswick. They are now truly a national party that has delivered good common sense government that Canadians can and will continue to support. Gerald Hall Nanoose Bay, B.C.
