Colin Kaepernick compares all police to fugitive slave patrols, reminds us why he can't get a job

Colin Kaepernick is unemployed. Apparently, large companies - including sports teams - tend to avoid hiring people who've proven themselves to be massive PR nightmares. After all, if having someone on your staff means you spend all your time putting out the media fires they create, that person isn't going to last very long. Once word gets out that he's a "problem employee," finding a new gig in the same field is going to be tough. That's the situation facing Kaepernick, whose woes began woes began when he refused to stand for the national anthem at the beginning of NFL games. Since then, he's proven that if he can do something to make matters worse, he will. As The Sporting News reported, Kaepernick decided to return to controversy on Friday.

The real problem came when he attached the following image

On Friday, after a Minnesota court acquitted former police officer Jeronimo Yanez of manslaughter in the shooting death of black motorist Philando Castile in July 2016, Kaepernick tweeted the following. "A system that perpetually condones the killing of people, without consequence, doesn't need to be revised, it needs to be dismantled!"

That's probably not a terribly controversial statement, except for the fact that we don't have such a system. The real problem came when he attached the following image:

I would have sworn that the left constantly warns against stereotyping, or painting with a broad brush, but I guess that doesn't apply to police. All law enforcement officers are monsters, so in the immortal words of Al Sharpton "Resist we much." The bottom line here is that, however misguided it may be, Kaepernick has every right to think this. He can post it, promote his ridiculous beliefs, and he's more than welcome to make sure everyone knows how he feels. He had every right to take a knee during the National Anthem as well. That's the 1st Amendment in action. If he wants to take this stand, more power to him. The flip side of Kaepernick’s free speech is that NFL teams have a right to recognize that the guy's is a massive pain in the keister. They're free to dump him like a load of hot garbage, they have every right to avoid re-hiring him, and the owners can and should avoid employees who will be disruptive or detrimental to the organization. If Kaepernick wants to expose himself as a loudmouth idiot, more power to him. ...But his supporters need to grow up and understand that there are consequences attached to speech. The Constitution protects us from speech-related prosecution. It doesn't guarantee acceptance of the things we say.
