COP 27: Climate Confab: Absurd but Lucrative Posturing
“Josh” is a cartoonist that covers climate hysteria with remarkable wit and his update on the series of “COP” conventions is appropriate.  It’s worth adding that he has been running this one for years, COP 27 is on now. Just to think that the climate promotion started in the 1980s in a relatively small way with some academics at Hadley petitioning for funds. This was the university where H.H. Lamb did his remarkable and lasting work on climate history. The corruption in going from Lamb’s prestige to promoting fear for a living is appalling.
Josh is not the only wit in reviewing charlatans in science. The quote by Goethe in the early 1800s sums it up:
“Most men only care for science so far as they get a living by it, but they will worship error when it affords them a subsistence.”
A few years ago, I had the cartoon drawn that provides the definition of a promotion: Utopian Visions 101
Even the great Kepler was frustrated by not being able to make a living in science and complained that he could get paid for providing horoscopes:
“Mother Astronomy would surely have to suffer hunger if the daughter Astrology did not earn their bread.”
Much the same was recorded by Galileo in a letter to Kepler:
“My dear Kepler, I wish that we might laugh at the remarkable stupidity of the common herd. What do you have to say about the principal philosophers of this academy who are filled with the stubbornness of an asp and do not want to look at either the planets, the moon or the telescope.”

Icy Come, Icy Go

It is best to review hundreds of thousands of years of climate history before making decisions based upon just CO2 and temps since the 1850s. It is worth emphasizing that mandate of the IPCC has been to investigate CO2 and mankind. And nothing else behind the natural forces of climate change. The following charts provide perspective on today’s hysteria about the “Earth Frying”. Beyond this, the tout includes an unprecedented rise in sea levels, and the same chart put this grave concern in perspective.  The sea level rose the fastest when ice was melting at its greatest rate into the Holocene Optimum. Understandably, with so much of the ice melted and with the cooling since around 8,000 years ago, the trend in rising sea levels has flattened.  Also shown are the glacial and interglacial periods that document this section’s title. glacial and interglacial periods

And to bring things up to date, the next chart shows that Greenland’s ice cover has been increasing this season as history goes into another cooling solar cycle: Greenland’s ice cover
Of course, “everyone” has been dining out on the Arctic Ocean soon losing its summer ice. The last chart shows a distinctive turn to increasing ice extent at the seasonal low – “Day 229” – the middle of September: Arctic Ocean soon losing its summer ice

Bob Hoye (BobHoye.com) has been researching investments for decades, which eventually included the history of financial and political markets. He considers now to be the most fascinating time for both since the Great Reformation of the 1600s.  Bob casts a caustic eye on all promotions and, having a degree in geophysics, is severely critical of the audacity that a committee can “manage” not just the economy, but also the temperature of the nearest planet. He has had articles published in major financial journals and, as a speaker, has amused assemblies in a number of cities, from London to Zurich to Tokyo.
