By Lorrie Goldstein Crime statistics in Canada are being used by so-called “wise elites” to paint an inaccurate and rosy picture of what’s actually happening on our streets.
This misleading narrative — constantly spouted by opposition politicians, liberal media, “criminologists,” other academics, prisoners’ rights groups and criminal lawyers — has a specific political purpose. Since “crime is down,” their argument goes, any serious attempts by the Conservative government to toughen our justice system are not only unnecessary, but misguided and wasteful. More...
