OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today applauded the federal government’s pledge to introduce limited income splitting for parents, increase and extend the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), and raise child care deduction limits.
“Putting more money back in the pockets of Canadian families is a positive development,” said CTF Federal Director Aaron Wudrick. “While we would have rather seen a simpler approach, such as broad-based tax relief, income splitting, expansion of the UCCB and a higher child care deduction is considerably better than a giant institutionalized national daycare system.” “With the government at long last approaching a surplus position, we are encouraged that the debate is centering on the best way to provide to Canadians with more money in their pocket, rather than massive new government programs and increased spending,” continued Wudrick. “And we are hopeful that that debate will also consider relief for future generations in the form of paying down the federal debt.” Aaron Wudrick, CTF Federal Director
