Hello and welcome back to Miz Judi's Kitchen. I hope this finds all of you well and happy.
Ted's New Watch:
I am sure a lot of you remember when Christmas was about being with family and friends, having good times and not just about getting everything you might want.
When I was growing up we didn't have much money, but we never hurt for anything. We always had plenty of love and care, and never went hungry! We always had plenty of food to eat.
I remember one Christmas my brother Ted got a watch and cologne, and oh he was so proud of it! Everyone he saw he'd have to show it to them. You couldn't tell him anything!
On Sundays, each family would take turns having the preacher over for dinner after the services. Well this particular Sunday it happened to be our turn. After seeing Ted show everyone that watch and cologne, my Mama had warned Ted, "You better not say anything about that watch and cologne to the preacher." He had ‘bout drove Mama crazy showing them off, but in Ted's defense, he was proud of them. Heck that was a big Christmas to us!
Well the preacher got there, and we were all sitting around the dinner table. Ted was doing good so far, and had kept quiet about his watch and cologne for just about as long as he could stand it. All of a sudden he looks up at the preacher and says, "Preacher if you hear anything (his watch ticking), or smell anything, IT'S ME!
Now looking back on this, I bet my Mama wished she would've never told him not to say anything about it she was so embarrassed. But I must admit that preacher thought it was the funniest thing after Mama explained to him.
Now I know times are hard for everyone right now, but try and spend time with your loved ones and share your memories with them. This can give you all good quality time as a family and quite honestly be very enjoyable to even the smallest members. Make it fun for them to hear your stories, and let them share theirs with you, made up or not!
If you remember times being hard when you were growing up, also remember that your parent's always seemed to find time to somehow spend with you. Maybe they always didn't have the money to get what you might want, but they always found a way to see that you got what you might need. I know that's how it was for me and my family, and I am a better person today because of that. So let's start getting back to more family time and the basics. I believe you will see this can be very beneficial to all involved.
Try to get your kids away from the video games for awhile. Get them involved in some outside gardening and let them see how things are planted, and then watch their little plants take off and grow from seeds, into mature plants. Let them see how the plants start producing the vegetables, and watch them beginning to ripen. Let them help in your harvest, and let them taste for themselves the difference of their homegrown produce versus what they've become accustomed to from the store.
In this way you can save money in regards to your food bill, and spend enjoyable time with your children, and by doing some of this, they might see that you're not such an ole' grump after all.
This will also teach responsibility, by showing the correct way of planting, watering, etc. It will also show them the rewards of doing something, and doing it right, by them seeing the produce they've had a hand in helping create, and the enjoyment of eating them and sharing with the rest of the family their bounty! These are some of the small things you can show your children that have helped to make our Country so great!

‘Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen’!
Note to Readers: There are a few things that Dub doesn’t know but one thing he does know is that the word ‘Riding’ (as in Riding Out the Recession) is spelled with a ‘g’ at the end. But Dub not only walks the walk, but speaks like he is: down home, true blue, and plain speakin’ country folk.
Dub and Deb are both native Floridians, live in Central Florida, and run a small business as well. They have five children, and seven grandchildren.
Both love to cook, love to laugh, grow a garden, and generally try to “aggravate” most anyone around them basically…all in good fun, of course!
