Discrimination double standard favors big biz over mom and pop

When it comes to political advocacy, the scale is heavily weighted in favor of monster monopolistic business, which may as well be classified as ‘untouchable’ by government standards. Some corporate concerns are so large and have cornered markets that they rival government in coercive might, not that either were conferred such power by the People. In fact, the term ‘service industry’ has taken on a whole new definition in light of the compelling nature of both super-business and bureaucracy. Service has come to mean neglect, if not outright disregard for the customer and, in some cases, their own investors. Some may recall the bumper sticker from the 1960s/70s – “We don’t care. We don’t have to.” It was in reference to the ubiquitous phone company, affectionately called Ma Bell. Those sentiments have returned, only this time in context with the rising tide of political correctness that is rapidly marginalizing morality, related to Judeo-Christian values, that is.

The double standard comes in as super-companies like Paypal, that offer a service which is basically unrivalled in the marketplace, refuse service to businesses or non-profits that espouse conservative values, while other small concerns aren’t allowed the same leeway. Government bureaucracies regularly overlook big business’ discriminatory practices against conservatives, even lauding them. They then turn around to force mom and pop shops to provide service that is anathema to their deeply held religious beliefs, fining them tens of thousands of dollars if they do not comply. But business is business when it comes to the big boys, and those commercial giants that supply an unchallenged service are given special accommodation to discriminate at will. Small businesses haven’t the clout or resources to buck the bureaucratic revenuers and are coerced to either provide services with which they devoutly disagree, or they go under. In signing HB2, that requires people to use lavatories in government buildings according to their birth sex, Governor Pat McCrory of North Carolina should be applauded for his unwillingness to relent to any unelected, publicly unaccountable business (be it Paypal or some entertainer) that believes they should lecture the People on morality. The true crime is the misrepresentation of laws that are passed to protect the innocent from possible predation by LGBT pretenders, be they bathroom perverts or professional victims seeking financial gain. When the judicial system is inundated by frivolous lawsuits having no other purpose but to force amoralism on those with religious convictions, then freedom is already dead.

Mississippi also came under attack for passing the Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act last week that offers succor to businesses and churches being true to their religious convictions. Businesses have always been afforded flexibility in providing service as in the “no shirt, no shoes, no service” option. Obviously, a Muslim confectioner wouldn’t be forced to bake a cake for a gay couple’s union, then why would a Christian restaurateur be compelled to host their wedding reception? There still is, or should be, free choice in this nation to live according to one’s faith without shame or coercion to abandon it in favor of windblown political whim. Every citizen has the same protection under the Constitution, and no special interest group can derive from it preferential treatment that cancels out the rights of other individuals… we call it equality. Having a different code of values doesn’t confer any group more or better “rights.” Paypal, Bank of America, Fox, A&E, rock singers, Broadway lyricists and other States’ officials should keep their nose out of personal preference, religious or otherwise, and stick to their own business. Believe it or not, the tunnel-visioned LGBT movement and its commercial supporters must realize there is always an alternative to forcing your opinion on everyone else… the business, or bathroom, down the street.
