Does Obedience Have Limits?

One need not be a mystic these days to recognize the telltale signs of Divine chastisement. We are living in a kind of Hell on earth, where our leaders are madmen, our homes are broken, our babies are aborted, our streets are warzones, and there is a veritable tsunami of confusion coming out of Rome.

We turn to our priests for answers, only to find most of them obsessed with rainbows, climate change, and unicorns.

We turn to our pope for answers, only to find him blessing those rainbows, writing encyclicals that read like an Al Gore hot flash, and insisting that “all religions are pathways to God.” But is this the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

St. Paul says that if even an angel from heaven should preach a Gospel other than that given by Jesus Christ, let him be anathema.

I’m quite sure I’m not the only Catholic to have said the quiet part out loud: If an angel could preach a false Gospel, what about a pope? When the first pope tried that, St. Paul resisted him to his face.

So, it happens. And the question for us is: If it happens today, what do we do?

Our Lady of La Salette took it up a notch: “Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the antichrist.” So, if that could happen theoretically, what do we do if it happens today?

It gets pretty murky, which is why the sheep tend to scatter when the shepherd is struck.

But this gets to the heart of the current debate over the SSPX. And in my new Underground, I ask critics of the SSPX:

1. Do you believe the “state of necessity” is a theoretical impossibility (in which case the SSPX has no case)?
2. Do you accept that, although it is possible, we are simply not there yet?

How you answer this determines war or peace in your family. Because if you believe #2, then this is a prudential debate over which good Catholics can disagree. The circular firing squad collapses into a perfectly legitimate discussion over the severity of the crisis in the Church.

In my new Underground, I do not presume to answer this question for you. But I do ask you to help me answer it for all of us. Why? Because it is the most important question of our time: If Peter’s faith should fail him (as Our Lord warned it could), what do we do?

So, rather than anathematizing each other over this (as the woke Vatican would like), let’s pray for each other, pray for the pope, and debate this like brothers in Christ during the worst revolution in the Church we all love more than life itself.
