A fine good morning to ya! Welcome back once again into Miz Judi’s Kitchen! I hope all are well, and ready to do a little talkin, a little laughin, and a little cookin! If so…then c’mon in!
Back in “the day,” to hear others tell it, I must a been quite a character, but understand there’s an old sayin in regards to just such as this…opinions are like a……, oh, never mind!
My Granddaddy Troy loved me to death. I was his first born grandson, and was treated by him on account of this, just like royalty. Honestly, I literally could do no wrong. If I remember correctly, and I do, he allowed me to cuss a little when around him…just me and him off together.
Keepin this in mind, I think ya’ll will see, that there were actually times, or moments in my childhood that some of these “gems” Granddaddy had taught me would slip out, and this story is about one such time!
Before I tell this though, I’d like to let you in on one of my Daddy’s pet peeves…lyin! I’m here to tell ya, if Daddy caught you in a lie, Lordy, the consequences of this were almost too much to bear!
Now if you went ahead and owned up you’d done somethin wrong… or bad, whatever the case may be, the consequences of your actions were still indeed dire, but nothing compared to Daddy catchin ya lyin about em!
So, you knew, I mean, you just knew better than to tell Daddy a lie! You just sucked it up, and owned up to your actions, whatever they may have been. Once more…we knew better than to lie to Daddy!
Well, this morning I’m a gonna tell ya’ll a little school days tale. I was just a little feller, second grade to be exact, and was asked one fine day by our teacher, “Dub would you mind standin up and tellin the class who wrote the Declaration of Independence?”
The way I remember this, is that I promptly stood up and told the teacher I didn’t know, and on top of that I didn’t give a d… either!
Just as soon as she recovered her composure, she yanked me outta that chair and to the office we went!
Upon arriving at the office, she drug me straight on through the greetin area, and right on into the principal’s office.
She flew into that man like a bobcat, slingin her arms in the air, and literally screamin bout what I’d said in class. He just sat there a minute or two, then asked her politely to go back to the classroom as the other kids had no supervisin at the moment, and assured her that he’d handle my situation!
When she left, he stated that I was in trouble, and surely could not continue using that type of language on the school grounds. He also felt I was too young to talk like that anyway, but he had no say so in it if I wasn’t at school. He also said, if I’d answer the question to him like I should, he’d let me off the hook this time.
So, he asked me who wrote the Declaration of Independence, and I again answered the exact same way. That man’s face went blood red! He called another lady into his office and asked her to call my Daddy at work, and to tell him I was in serious trouble! He then advised her to be sure an tell my Daddy he needed to come to his office at school…now!
In just a matter of minutes my Daddy was standin right there in that office with me and the principal, and I could tell he was none too happy with me, for sure!
First he hated to miss any work, and secondly, please remember my advice to all earlier…you don’t lie to my Daddy…no matter what, you’d better own up to whatever it was you’d done!
Well, that principal told my Daddy that he and the teacher both had asked me who wrote the Declaration of Independence , and both times I’d answered them, “I don’t know, and don’t give a d…!”
Immediately Daddy’s face contorted, and I’m sure I saw his eyes literally become bloodshot, just that quick…he was mad, mad, and once again…MAD!
He snatched me up outta that chair, pulled me up by my shirt and held me there, face to face with him! It was then Daddy said, SON, I’m gonna tell you this one time, and one time only… if you wrote that there Declaration of Independence…you sure as h…, better be ownin up to it boy!!”
Believe you me, years later my Daddy was still walkin around just knowin I had indeed written that Declaration of Independence, and if he ever found out any different… well… it surely hadn’t come from my lips!
Thank ya’ll for comin this morning, and God Bless!

‘Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen’!
Note to Readers: There are a few things that Dub doesn’t know but one thing he does know is that the word ‘Riding’ (as in Riding Out the Recession) is spelled with a ‘g’ at the end. But Dub not only walks the walk, but speaks like he is: down home, true blue, and plain speakin’ country folk.
Dub and Deb are both native Floridians, live in Central Florida, and run a small business as well. They have five children, and seven grandchildren.
Both love to cook, love to laugh, grow a garden, and generally try to “aggravate” most anyone around them basically…all in good fun, of course!
