As I watch America, Canada, and the rest of the world, I wonder if, as a collective, human beings are as dumb as a box of rocks. Throughout history, biblical and otherwise, when human beings turn away from God bad things happen. Just examine how many times God slapped down the Israelites when they drifted away from God’s guidelines (i.e. The Ten Commandments). The Israelites had multiple periods when they were dumb as a box of rocks.
The Israelites went through many cycles of obeying God, then drifting away from God. What we call “western civilization” has been drifting away from God and Jesus Christ for the last 75 years. It would seem that, as Martin Luther pointed out in the 16th century, God is using Islam again to punish Christian western civilization. As evidence I submit what is going wrong in Europe due to the Muslim influence and the communist influence. Free speech, gone. Law and order by western standards, gone. What is next, Sharia Law? Europe has had multiple times when they were dumb as a box of rocks, and 2026 is just the latest iteration.
Now here we are in North America and both Canada and the United States of America are facing their first dumb as a box of rocks moment. For more than 500 years, Christians have occupied this continent and prospered under God’s Christian values and standards. For the last 75 years we have allowed our public education system to degenerate into a communist propaganda system in conjunction with the abandonment of our Christian values. That, in and of itself, was dumb as a box of rocks. And of course, in this world we can’t fix the past, we can only deal with what’s happening today and try to make a better future.

This could also be called the Dumb as a Box of Rocks Cycle. The Israelites did it many times, the European nations did it a bunch of times, it looks like Canada has done it, and we will know after November 3, 2026, whether America is headed down the dumb as a box of rocks road.
Western civilization is the teachings of the triune God as taught by Jesus Christ. The Ten Commandments and the charge by Jesus “to love our neighbors as ourselves” has worked for more than 2000 years.

All these men sent us a very important message. History is resplendent with examples of how bad things get when we turn away from God. Are we listening?
Can we learn from history and break the dumb as a box of rocks cycle? Will we wake up to our human nature and its foibles and break the dumb as a box of rocks cycle? Or will history simply repeat itself again? Only time will tell.
Know God and know liberty. No God and no liberty.
