The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in children aged 5 to 11 on Friday, a critical step toward beginning vaccinations for the age group. "The FDA has determined this Pfizer vaccine has met the criteria for emergency use authorization," the FDA said in a press release.
