This contradicts some earlier unconfirmed reports of a live-fire round hitting a gas line or well. There is no indication of terrorism.

As far as the investigation has concluded thus far, this tragedy appears to have been the result of a grass fire in dry conditions with winds gusting up to 100 kms/hr. Such fires have been observed travelling across land at 25 km/h, in the extreme. An untrained adult can run ~17-24 kms/hr. Fit infanteers often hit ~24–32 km/h.

The initial cause of the fire is still undetermined. In accordance with DAOD 4007-1, Reporting and Investigation of Fires and Incidents, a detailed report that covers origin, cause, contributing factors and property loss is required within 30 days.
