From the Heart?

This issue of funding nonprofits with tax payer dollars has been front and center lately. We have, over time, allowed government into the arena of charitable giving. We let them charge us more taxes so that they can then fund non-profits of their choice. This system naturally leads to problems. Are we nuts? Charity should be of our choice and according to our ability and as moved by our hearts.

Government has no right to take our money and then give it away. Because that is exactly what charitable giving is. It's a gift. There are many good nonprofits out there that are doing great work. And, if we have the discretionary dollars, we should support them. But it should be our choice and our check. Sue Land Englewood, FL
