H-1B undermines the biblical nature, culture of America

How many have been displaced in the workforce due to H-1B visa imports or plain old outsourcing? It’s a fair bet that a number of readers join this columnist in having experienced downsizing or rejection for a position directly related to “guest workers” that are willing to accept wages that won’t cover the cost of living.

Whether it’s technology, service, manufacturing, marketing, or even teaching positions, virtually every industry in this nation has been negatively affected by the influx of foreign workers who are only too happy to fill jobs at a much lower pay rate. Why? Because the amount they take home, though cheap here, is still far more than they may earn in their native country. It’s a matter of relativity.

The discrepancy in earning power is the most obvious aspect of the H-1B discussion that’s heating up social media, but it doesn’t touch the true depth of the conversation and the ill effects on American culture. The problem goes deep into the decades of eroding educational standards and eschewing the concept that this country even has a culture.

The last statement may be hard to swallow by born and bred Americans but it has been insinuated so far into public education that college students in my classes, when I taught at major universities out west, argued that very point. The reason for their ignorance was that these young people had been indoctrinated to believe that only other cultures existed, that America had none. They were taught to accept Asian, African, Pacific Islander, Native American, some European cultures, etc. as legitimate but deny that of our own.

The reason is that the biblical basis for our constitutional rights and cultural mores can’t coexist with collectivist doctrine, which teaches everyone has the right to claim the benefits of someone else’s labor by supposedly sharing equally in the fruits of others’ hard work. Even the Pilgrims experimented with the concept and threw it out as a total failure:

In spring 1622, Bradford and the colony’s council voted out collectivism in favor of private property. “The failure of that experiment of communal system, the taking away of private property, and the possession of it in community by commonwealth, was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and # much employment which would have been to the general benefit,” Bradford wrote in his journal. “At length after much debate of things, I…gave way that they should eat corn every man for his own particular, and in this regard trust to themselves. Despite that historical fiasco, Marxism has still raised its ugly head, infiltrating the American public education system for over a hundred years. (The first teachers’ union in New York even incorporated tracts from the Communist Manifesto into its bylaws in 1857.) It’s been a long hard, diligent effort by Marxists to bring us to the point where every culture is acceptable except that of American freedom of speech and religion; that biblical mores are obsolete but every other culture’s “ethics” take precedence, though the polytheistic or atheistic beliefs don’t support Godly morality. And this is what has flooded our nation via the H1B policy of importing people of other cultures willing to work for barely tolerable wages.

Vivek Ramaswamy’s diatribe excoriating American culture as “venerating mediocrity” is off-base because even he overlooks the concept of a biblically-based culture that has been diminished by the importing of other cultures that do not venerate, to use his term, God and His Word upon which the bones of the country was built and strengthened. He seems to think that cultures celebrating their own accomplishments by their own hand is superior to that of glorifying God in what the individual achieves.

It all boils down to the ousting of God from the schoolroom and replacing it with the mediocrity that Ramaswamy accepts as natural to this nation, but it is not. It is the foreign concept of communist collectivism, “equity” that usurps others’ achievements, and self-serving exploitation of workers to build tech empires that is bringing America to its knees.

Both Elon Musk and Ramaswamy, neither of whom profess faith in the Bible, may realize that they are promoting the continued downfall of American culture by espousing how their industries can only grow with more H1B workers to displace American citizens in their own country. Musk believes that humanity must be made better by AI upgrades implanted in the brain (Neuralink). God’s handiwork is not good enough for him because he evidently doesn’t believe in God, which, frankly, is contradictory to American culture which is founded on God-derived rights, not those dispensed by human kings or oligarchs. In this, Musk completely misses the mark of what America is and who are its citizens.

My own little refutation of Ramaswamy’s dismissal of all of American culture was posted at the outset of this discussion December 26 (and no, I don’t pay for a blue checkmark)

“The problem is public education; training teachers 4 class management, avoiding litigation, & reducing time allotted for subject study in the classroom from 1 hr to 15 minutes, producing inability to focus. I know b/c I had to fight this system as a college instructor 4 ed majors.”

Working in the education system, teaching college over decades, I have watched the demise of curriculum to succumb to Common Core, CRT, DEI, now SEL (Social, Emotional Learning) concepts that stress personal feelings over academics. The discipline of Education was never meant to train teachers in passing on academic knowledge, but was devised to instil Marxist policies in the classroom. Just look at the nonsense of the Feminist Philosophy of education that was shoved at graduate students such as myself 20 years ago. It actually has no philosophy except to disavow so-called Authoritarian philosophy of teaching, neither of which was ever defined. (BTW, Lyotard, who promoted feminist philosophy, negated the concept at the end of his book, which I pointed out to my professors at the time.)

This nation is fighting for its life, but is losing the battle to foreign influences with which Musk and Ramaswamy would continue to inundate the labor market, replacing workers that also replace American culture with their own non-biblical cultures.

In case it hasn’t been noticed, this is a repetition of history, including biblical chronicles. One needn’t go beyond the dismantling and utter destruction of the states of Israel and Judah, whose people gave themselves over to idols. Lamentations Chapter 5 lays out the heartbreak of a devastated nation, broken by imported, fleshly idols:

1 Remember, O Lord, what has come upon us;
Look, and behold our reproach!
2 Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens,
And our houses to foreigners.
3 We have become orphans and waifs,
Our mothers are like widows.

4 We pay for the water we drink,
And our wood comes at a price.
5 They pursue at our heels;
We labor and have no rest.
6 We have given our hand to the Egyptians
And the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

7 Our fathers sinned and are no more,
But we bear their iniquities.
8 Servants rule over us;
There is none to deliver us from their hand.
9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives,
Because of the sword in the wilderness. (NKJV)

The idols that America is giving itself over to are those of fleeting financial gain for tech oligarchs, who would rule by algorithm rather than the unaltered concepts God passed down to believers over time immemorial.

President Trump is incorrect in thinking that unconstrained H-1B visa handouts for the mediocrely skilled will solve the problem, if there really is one, which is debatable. Abolishing the Department of Education, which purposely fosters and finances the emotional approach to learning rather than academic achievement, is what’s necessary.
